Insurance cost

Insurance due on my M40i on 2nd December. After last year's rather sobering renewal (£580 from £420 in 2022) I had heard that prices had dropped back a little this year. Just got some quotes in. Lowest is £398 and around £450 for most of the major companies. That's positive. Hope you all see similar drops.

I've just gone with Saga at £330, was insured last year with the AA and the renewal was around £515, up from £450, I'm well happy.

Saga could not quote for me, I guess I was just too young (in mind). But yes, all premiums dropped by about 30% this year compared to last year.

I was pointed in the direction of Howdens. Gave them a ring and they beat my renewal quote by £80. Put my home insurance with them also.

They don't do on line quotes and you ring a real person who works in a real office, in my case Harrogate. I now have his direct contact details and any queries I contact him. Old fashioned stuff and the personal touch I like.

I'm with them aswell. Sad isn't it??

My 3 Series is with them too so I'm in the sad club as well. :(

No good for my MC though as they really don't understand modifications!

Just tried Saga. £517. In the ball park but not cheap.

I will have to have a conversation with them shortly, as there is a viscous rumour that my Audrey may be coming soon. Although, judging by my experience of the lease broker and VWFS so far, they will probably take it to the wrong address.

Tried Saga every year since I met their criteria, they have never came back less than double my best quotes.

I went with them because they were the cheapest, but it was on the Z3. Never used them before.
Then I swapped it over to the F31 and paid a little extra but they fucked up and never did the swap over on their 'puter. I was alerted by a letter in the post from some insurance 'watchdog' (can't remember who they are TBH) saying my F31 was showing up as not insured. I phoned them and they admitted it was their mistake and gave me 6 months free insurance. So in the end they were cheaper than anyone!
Not anticipating them being competitive now TBH, but will go with them until the policy is up for renewal in January.

Odd thing, this insurance lark. For the past ten years or so, LV have been the cheapest for us on whatever cars we had at the time. Then suddenly they decided not to be and now Admiral or Churchill are cheapest for us.
LV have obviously decided to get into a different market, as the 'low risk, older folk with a perfect driving record' scenario is no longer attractive for them, apparently.

I was with Admiral, currently Churchill, and looking to go back to Admiral again. I wish they would just give the best deal every year rather than trying it on every time. Also considering the family fleet option for our 3 cars, given they all come up for renewal with 2 days of each other.

I agree, I just wish they tried to keep customers then I wouldn't have to change every year!

Although to be fair my 3 Series has been with Saga 4 years now as they haven't jacked the premium up every renewal. :)

I only have two cars in my single person household and have tried the multi-car option a few times, but I've always got a good price for one but not the other so I've given up trying.

Home and business with them but they couldn’t beat Chris Knott for my z4 and my wife’s Focus was a lot cheaper. As above real people, real office and really nice in both cases. Had enough of Hastings Direct.

There doesn't seem to any 'general rules' with insurance anymore. It does seem to be very specific to the insured, I think maybe because insurance databases have so much information on all of us these days.

A good example is my daughter. She is 18, only five months experience with a full licence and has a Mini Cooper (not the cheapest to insure). Her premium was just £600 in May this year. Her peers (girls not boys) with the same 'risk' as her are paying at least double that figure. I put it down to her 'risk' being associated with ours. Again, I don't know, but I'm sure it's not because they like the look of her.

I pay pennies for insurance, whether car or home, and have done for years. I have no idea why.
And yet I have approached the likes of Chris Knott for quotes in the recent past and they have been massively uncompetitive for me. Much much more expensive than the 'mainstream' companies. Again, I have no idea why.

It must be magic vibes. Need to start calling you “lucky Pondrew”

I'm doing something wrong.

Last year it was £480 on my Sdrive2.0, renewal quote is £520. Not too bad, but some of the quotes on this thread are much better.

Maybe it's my age (77) or the wife's two SP30 speeding convictions :x

This thread is about insurance, not kitchens!  :poke:
Seriously, that did cross my mind when I first heard the name. When you research them they are a very big insurance company that's just getting into car insurance. I was offered £50 if they couldn't undercut my renewal quote for the car or the Home insurances. They undercut both with better cover and the personal service.
If anyone wants to give them a try I can supply them with direct contact details
