Insurance Cost Z4M

Talking of bizarre - my insurance was cheaper if I included my wife down as named driver.
Clearly they’ve not seen her driving!

Yes insurance companies are happier if a partner accompanies the driver to temper the driving style, my wife although she is a good driver does not take prisoners, I’m happy to save £100 on insurance, one of the few financial perks of marriage.

Churchill renewal received today, £213.54. Gone up from £196.61 last year. Mods declared and no mileage limit. I was expecting a huge rise so I'm very happy, unlike two hours ago when I sent off £735 for tax. Swings and roundabouts I suppose. Oh, my wife is also on the policy but she can't see over the bonnet to drive it so there's another thing to be happy about.

Well after getting renewal through from Chris Knott for £434.99 (it was £370 last year) I got a quote for £419.00 from Howden in Thatcham with a £50 lower excess.

Went back to CK yesterday and surprise surprise they matched the premium and the excess, so I renewed with them!

Given the increases some have seen I suppose that isn't too bad for a car with a few mods.

£170 for this years renewal, £150ish the year before that and £122ish the year before that and I expect to get it lower than £170.

Wow, that's dirt cheap Ed. :o

But maybe being in Yorkshire helps. Was it that cheap when you were in Kent? If so I need to try whoever you are with next year!

It wasn’t that cheap when I was down South Iain so definitely to do with being here but I’m sure I was only in the £200s down there and weirdly enough it’s cheaper to insure than my 35i and my 3.0si

Jumping back into this thread. My insurance Co have just offered to lock this years renewal price in for the next 3 years (don’t laugh, it’s Saga) at £275 per year, thought it was a bit of a no-brainier….

I have the Z4m and the Clio 172 Cup insured with Saga! Z was £200 for the year, and I think I locked that price in for 3 years also.

I thought location was probably quite a factor - maybe I should have moved North instead of a few miles East in 2022!

Weirdly my M was also cheaper to insure when I got it than my 3.0Si the year before.

I’m considering getting back into Z ownership and a MR would be great. Just trying to get a handle on running costs and started by asking the Meerkat for quotes. I was pleasantly surprised to see annual premiums of around £220-250 coming back. That’s non-specialist insurers, RAC, Churchill etc, 3000 miles p/a, garaged, living in Somerset.

So I was quietly surprised my Z4M has gone down this year it's just over £400 with Churchill fully comp, 5000 miles, SDP policy. I live in Manchester and car theft is prolific here.

My Mini Clubman JCW on the other hand has gone from £600 to nearly £1000. Same address, that being said 4 years ago I had my last JCW stolen but this year it's nearly doubled. I was thinking the Z would have doubled too.

That £735 is really stinging at them moment, just sent mine off, not sure how much higher I want to be paying in the years ahead...

Still don't get it that my X5M tax will be the same as my EV

Paid £180

The only way I can tax my Z4MC and others affordably is to keep on taxing and sorning. My E89’- used in Spain - will now be sorned until October - when it goes back. The MC will only be on the road from June to august. Etc etc….the only car that is permanently taxed is the fiat 500. But the online system that now allows tax on/off even monthly is a godsend. Lots of refunds and no need to go to the post office

I do exactly the same with my second cars.
