Booked my car in for inspection 2 at local BMW dealer.
They didn't really inspire me with confidence as i have history at this particular garage. During a service for a 330ci m sport i filled the scooshers to the top couldn't get another drop in and drove to service without using.Got charged for 2 litres of window scoosher fluid on my service...thieving sods.
Anyways, car was with them for a total of just over two weeks for a 6 hour job. The reason being was they couldn't source a rocker cover gasket ( which i sourced in 2 phone calls) and that this was on back order from Germany. Over two weeks later i got a phone call saying the car was ready. This is when the alarms started going off in my head. During this timescale i was told day after day the rocker gasket would be arriving, eventually they say the parcel was lost in the post.
During the final collection I requested the pre and post valve clearance measurements. They said they measured the clearances and as requested showed me a bit of paper with the measurements. They never did any adjustments because the clearance fell within the range. I explained to them that the whole point of this operation is to optimise the engine performance by adjusting to the optimum setting i.e in the middle of the range. I was then told no BMW garage would adjust the clearance if they fell within the range. I may be wrong but surely this is bullshit....?
The really worrying thing leading from this is prior to picking up the car they said the ordered rocker gasket seal was lost in the post. Doubts of whether they even measured the clearances were ignited as i couldn't smell any sealant etc in engine bay. I believe they just wanted closure and blagged me.
On top of this my service indicator book wasn't updated and my on board service indicator light wasn't reset. When the service indicator light was reset it showed Inspection service due. Now here's another thing, i just got an Inspection 2 service at 32,500 miles. I now believe the service due was an oil service and the Inspection 2 service was due 15,000 miles later as indicated. The garage advised me that the pattern followed is oil service....inspection1....oil service.....then inspection2. The service indicator light prior to the garage taking it in said service due 2500 miles (not inspection) I tried to explain that the service required in determined by fuel consumption and that future buyers of my car are going to think the car was driven hard all the time to warrant such an early Inspection of which they advised to do. I may be wrong?
Overall i wasn't too impressed with the experience and had to pay £1100 for the pleasure. Any advise would be appreciated as i'm really not too sure i've been right.
