Yes, but that is the bmw value service not the bmw M value service.

I wondered how long it would be before we had another Indy v BMW thread. Just take it where you want to and leave it at that. Any garage is only as good as the person doing the work whether it is a BMW garage or an independent.

Agreed and this is not the point I was making personally.

When buying my M I used this site and cutters prior to purchasing and found the information useful in my search for an M with service history and for accurate information.

Often people take what is written on owners forums as gospel (with good reason) but as some people have already stated they were not aware clearances were required (although it's in the sevice book). I think it's useful to highlight for anyone who is thinking about paying for this service to know that it is cheap because one of/if not the most important part of the sevice isn't listed and someone who has had it carried out has confirmed they weren't done :)

Cant find the Z4M on there...

On the first link you have to input the reg number..... And that then links to relevant servicing menu..

I have no doubt the first link is incorrect, but i put up the list up as i couldnt find the reference to having the valve clearances done that JamieZ referred too..

I think that BMW are sailing really close to the wind here. They cannot call something "Inspection 1" or "Inspection 2" and then describe them differently across various websites.

If I type my //M's details into the originally posted website they quote me £269 for Inspection 1 and £429 for Inspection 2, but in their descriptions neither include check and adjustment of ca ale clearances.

Pity mine's not due for a service - this would all make for a good fight!!

Doesn't the link say "excluding M-Power models" in the small print at the bottom? The one TomK posted does.

Not that I can see:

TERMS AND CONDITIONS.
Offer(s) available at participating Dealers only.
Prices include all parts, labour and VAT.
All prices shown are based on information the customer has entered. If for any reason information entered is incorrect prices cannot be guaranteed.
All prices are correct at time of publication and may be subject to change at any point without prior notice.
BMW (UK) Limited will contact the specified Dealer within 48 hours of the request. Our Authorised Dealers will endeavour to accommodate the preferred day and time submitted by each customer, however this cannot be guaranteed.
The service pricing options shown on this website only apply for models of 3 or more years of age.
BMW (UK) Limited reserves the right to update, change and/or amend the terms and conditions contained in this site without prior notice.
BMW (UK) Limited reserves the right to alter, amend or terminate the promotion without prior notice, provided that BMW (UK) Limited shall not exercise this right unreasonably.
This promotion and these terms are governed by English law and subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English Courts.

But it does point out what they will check, so can we really argue?

Still worth a try I guess.

"All prices shown are based on information the customer has entered"

So in theory the price they give should be for your vehicle...

Its just that the info BMW are giving differs depending where you look..

Agreed, but the list both you and I posted clearly state shims are not part of the inspection one. This is where I guess dealers will point out that our cars are exempt or fob you off by saying they don't need to be checked, which we know is crap.

It is something BMW should sort though as their coding is crap and could easily be sorted.

Oh i totally agree....

I wonder if you could have a "discussion" about the situation..?

For instance.... In the service book it says the clearances need checking on inspection 1,surely of you book it in for the inspection 1 service you would naturally expect them to be checked ?

Might be worth an argument at service desk ..

That is a good point. you'd expect to get the service outlined in your service book.

I'd imagine you'd end up having to fork out for the valve clearances separately. If somehow BMW agreed, begrudgingly, to carry out the shimming for the all inclusive £269, I'd be concerned that the job had been rushed. Not sure it's an argument I'd like to have.

I will try as said before if the pricing is still the same in 2 months. Worst case is they will get the price down to a more acceptable level.

On my last zed they wanted £370 for an inspection 1. Another main dealer quoted £199 rightly or wrongly. Anyway my dealer matched.

If they can do my Inspection 2 for around £700 with brake fluid change they can have the job. But I will want some proof of valve shimming being checked.

UPDATE TIME :

Had a call a voicemail, they said the price was for a non ///M car - as per prior posts on here!
He tried to say to me that I had not put my reg in there to get that price - I GOT ANGRY HERE!! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:
End of the day - the new price is now on the website when you put details in - it must have not been updated with ///M pricing when I went on.

Price now is £640 and is full 2 day job with valve clearances

I just put ///M's details in and it's returning £269 for Insp 1 and £429 for Insp 2:

https://www.bmw-service.co.uk/?gclid=CNSG3cTD_cECFY_ItAod2wMA3w#/%23your-details#your-vehicle

Very strange - surely all of our enquiries hit the same website running the same details........or not?

I wondered if it was anything to do with my private plate, although it identified the car correctly. So put in the cars original plate and it found nothing. Entered details in manually, Z4, 2003-08, roadster, manual and the all important M, and it still came out with the cheap prices

check means " a quick look"... what a con basically an oil service and a walk around ticking boxes on a sheet. ins 2 ? wheres the valve clearance check or the brake strip and clean an ins 2 should include but actually does'nt. be interesting to know how much time the tech is given to carry out this work, bet they have your car all day but do about an hour on it. better off doing it yourself , bloody sure you will get a much better job

ps all of this and more ,bar the replacement of oil, filters and plugs is checked on an mot test, and that costs between 35 and 50 quid, that should put things into perspective :|

Just put my service request in via the website for Inspection " and brake Fluid change. Just waiting for the call now
