Infotainment upgrade

I must be in a minority - after a couple of small changes, I'm very happy with the sound quality & volume in the e89.

I only have the bog stock 6 speaker system, changed the front door speakers for some co-axial MatchUp units, changed the rear ear level woofers for those out of a mini cooper. That's it. £120.

I went with the MatchUp co-axials as they come with a small wiring loom that you use if direct connecting to the base head unit - otherwise they might sound too harsh & treble boosty.

Sounds spot on to my old age ears.

Gentlemen, a bit of clarity.....

"Woofers are typically used to reproduce low-frequency sounds in music and movies. These sounds include the bass notes in a song, the rumble of a movie explosion, or the sound of footsteps in a horror movie."

Taken from... https://producerhive.com/buyer-guides/monitors-speakers/subwoofer-vs-woofer/#:~:text=Subwoofers%20are%20designed%20to%20produce,focus%20on%20lower%20frequency%20waves.

So you shouldn't really hear that much of a difference.

Also, the door speakers are midrange, with the additional tweeter, the rear quarter speakers (below seatbelt points) are also midrange. Both front and rear centre speakers are midrange, along with the tweeters. Then you have the woofers in the driver and passenger footwell sides and finally there are two subwoofers behind the seats. Anything other than the 6 speaker basic package (doors, rear quarter and woofers) also have the amplifier package.

On my own car I have the basic 6 speakers with the added door tweeters, apart from the woofers these are B&O speakers (from Aliexpress). I've not added an amplifier to the mix, although I have considered the Vibe POWERBOX65.4BMW3, which basically plugs into the existing loom, so you don't have to alter or run any wiring.

Hi David,

I have the OEM 11 speaker "Professional" (Harmon Kardon) 676A amplified system . Last year I followed your video and installed the 7 speaker "B&O" package of midranges and tweeters. That improvement plus the new Android head unit (your other video) with its multiband equalizer really "woke-up" my sound system tremendously. I "felt" the subwoofers on my back as I sat in my seat for the first time in 11 years of owning the car. I'm hoping that these new kickpanel woofers will add some "boom" to the sound system, to an area of the car I never heard before.

On my 6 speaker system changing the kick panels speakers to Hertz woofers made a huge difference even without adding an amp. I am sure you will notice them.
