4th largest economy in the world, if we couldn't manage on our own, who could?
I remember all the scaremongering about the Euro; how much we would lose by not joining, the 'experts' at the CBI saying we should as business would be better off, the risks of the UK falling behind, the Pound being an "expensive luxury". Look how that turned out...
Immigration is a poor argument but it gets the votes of the ignorant which is why it's used; those born here who refuse to work and/or simply pop out sprogs to get a house are the real drain on our society, but that's a different conversation.
Aside from the huge expense that the vast bureaucracy in Brussels costs, there will always be net contributors and net beneficiaries. Ireland being one example of an economy propped up by the EU and developed that couldn't sustain itself when the money was needed to bail the banks out. While I'm all for helping neighbours, it should be on our terms.
Democracy isn't perfect, but at least you can revolve the doors every few years, the EU is becoming far too removed and undemocratic considering its size.
Out for me.
