Imola Red Z4M CSL

Hi Brendon - welcome to the site. Really look forward to seeing more of the car and about the work you've been doing

Hi,

Haven't got any video's myself, but they did video during the mag arcticle. Have been waiting to she it posted by AL-Tuning on YouTube. The only one is a Dyno run of my car during the first set of mods on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9i7dDX0YTE

Not sure how you post a pic on here, but I have a try:

You'll need to host the photo on something like photobucket then simply link into it. It will then display in the thread.
what I think you've done there is just embedded a link to your own c drive.

I remember the two guys to coming over to have a chat when I was tying to get my iphone sync'd with the car.

That'd be me :) Welcome to the forum!

I think I saw/heard you this weekend - only saw the tail end of a red ///M making a ferocious noise on the A52 :)

Welcome! Sweet car, good to see another well loved Imola MR 8)

I've always wondered about how CSLs would look, defo need to get some more pics on here!

Not too sure about the other bits, but wow, looks great! Bet it sounds the business too.

Same as the MStyle one we discussed about in the other thread. I reckon this pic they gave is the Eisenmann one... I mean, the number plate has Eisenmann on it!!

TBH I wasn't too happy with their email replies to my questions. very short one liners. nothing descriptive, etc...

Indeed.

Nowack needed to wind up to 9000rpm + cams + exhaust + remap etc to find 400bhp from the M3 engine, so it makes you wonder how these other tuners can get anywhere near with what are essentially breathing mods and a remap.

No doubt they will have some shady dyno printouts to prove it :P

but he DID get the cams, and the zorst, and the pulleys, and the remap, and the de-cat...
or am I getting confused with what you're saying?

Power ~ cfm, and to get that when the breathing is already good, needs rpm.

Rpm needs strong internals/rods, and Nowack wouldn't run to 9000rpm to make peak power if they didn't need to, since it IS cheaper to do cams etc, than strong internals/bottom end.
Thus it makes sense that to make 400bhp you want 9000rpm.

So, chances are even with cams (as per CSL), remap (as per CSL), exhaust (as per CSL), and fancy intake plenum chamber, you probably won't get more than 360bhp anyway.
Point is, it's never going to get beyond CSL levels of output without BIG work (rpm's)...

Thats said, an RPI scoop could net another 15bhp ;) :D

Hi,

Yes agree, talking to Roy at CA-Auto getting 400 BHP out of a M3 (E46) engine whatout those mods is not possible. The cheet is REVs, there is another 15-20bhp from 8000 to 9000 revs, however your engine wont last long :-(. Talking to Mike at AL-Tuning Dynos can be tweeked, to give different results. Al-tuning say they have done this

I spent about a year talking to all the UK tuning companies before embarking on this adventure and decided on CA-Automotive as all the others promised x% increase, one was saying 25bhp from just a map. Roy was very conserative about BHP figures saying about 20-25 bhp gain from an CSL airbox, Exhaust, Pulleys and Live mapping. At the start my car was running 326 bhp (forgot th revs ... think 7800 ?) (what happen to the 343 BMW quote) and afterward with mods 359 at 8290. With the Shrick CAMs, Supersprint decat pipes, Big-bore throttle bodies and the Race Map (sounds amazing :-) have to say) I'm getting 379bhp at 8250. However it needs to go through a number of drive cycles (over a month of adaptions) because when they had the car back for the second round of modes the car was running 355bhp another 5 bhp from adaptions. Have to say the car ran differently every time for the first week of having it back. One thing I have noticed that peck Torque occurs alot lower down the rev range than before.

Al-tuning say the Standard M3 run about 310-320 and the CSL 340 - 360 on the dyno.

But at 5000 - upwards (sport button on) the sound from the carbon airbox, cams etc makes it sound like a racing car, just amazing.

The CSL badges are BMW origninals are are smaller in size than the M badge. Just abit bling lol :-)

Dinan are much better in that regard.

They really talk about what they do to their cars, if you want to find out, before you even have to ask... the info is available already for those who want to see it.

That to me is the action of a company confident they know what they are doing, and are happy to both be peer reviewed on it openly, and at the same time give away some 'intellectual property' to other tuners.

They really do seem to be very good and honest... just a shame there are no decent UK dealers.
