I'm annoyed w/roadster's 3rd brake light

Yes - I can get them via the links. Will have a little look and see if there is anything that can be done. I assume the profile was closing in making it more difficult to fit them at the extreme ends

cj10jeeper, did you take a look at your? I had no idea as I don't look at my own and rarely am behind another Z4...until HC then that was all I noticed. I'll be interested in your opinion if this is feasible or just too impractical to accomplish.

Yes - I did take a look and I'm real pissed with you :poke:

Not only did I discover that it does not light to the ends and realy it should, just as you say, but my fairly new clear light has developed the infamous corner cracks of the old style red lights. This I would have never known unless I messed about studying it and means that at some time I'll be going to buy a replacement....

Guess when I get the new one the old will be fair game as a test bed to develop a full width illuminating one.

I guess to us that have all the time in the world, la la la. It just annoys the heck out of me that this looks so incomplete. Perhaps while convalescing I could get some treatment for this OCD thing. Who knows. But in the meantime, hehe. Looks like the reflectors have a circuit board that holds the LED's or whatever they are referre to. Perhaps it would be easier to fit a strip across the backside rather than try to add on a few (plus resisters?) to the board. Now the fun begins.

OK so if I were to do it I'd likely mount extra 12v led's that don't require resistors (same as those used in the door lighting project) .Should be easy enough to mount them at the ends and find a clean 12v feed.

Would it be better to add an entirely new strip (L&R) to ensure identical luminosity/color or am I making this too complicated?

just a test

It might be a challenge to get the same colour and reflections given the way the centre has a series of formed reflectors. Sure if oyu can cut a strip to length it could work. Really until and if I get time to pull one to pieces it's all guesswork

I'll bring the reflector bit with me on Friday for you ;)

I wonder though, will the leds in the regular red version be white or red leds? obviously they'll be red inside the white version.

I wonder why it's like this in the first place... simple cost cutting?
the shallower reflectors on the ends suggests there's a more of a technical reason.

Good idea Herminator then I can have a little look and perhaps make more informed comment

On the colour. I guess there are 2 things the wattage of the LED and it's at rest and illuminated colours. On the clear the at rest is very important. Probably a test and see what it looks like on the red.
