iDrive Navigation Map Update

would be cool if they exposed the screen as an airplay target, then you could have whatever software you want on your iphone and have the screen on the display and the sound through the speakers.

Sorry, that is waaay off target, just a thought...

nope... that doesnt work

The language? We also got a 2011 1'er with pro nav, it has the 2011 version of the maps and it works fine, Manchester only shows once.

Looked in the Z4....same options - select Great Britain etc in the destination screen, then manchester in the city and you get Manchester and the one with the funny accent.

Checked and both cars set to use English as the language...but I think that might be for menu items.

So yeah, it seems like a small bug whereby it is showing different language place names.

My car is only 2 weeks old, so this is as from factory. I might try changing the language to French...then back to English, just incase...but I doubt it'll help.

I also noticed that if I put my address in using postcode, then confirm the road name etc, it only gives me house numbers from 50 onwards...we are in the 20's, yet if I select the town, then road etc and not use postcode, it works fine! Need to try this on the 1er as well.

I've sussed why I have three manchesters and therefore I have only one doncaster. Because recent destinations are listed at the top. So I got a Manchester or Doncaster at the top plus matching entries below. So in essence I'm seeing what everyone else is, reliably, two Manchester's.

Scrap my last comment about the postcode and house numbers...the 1'er does it as well.

So the double manchester thing happens on a car that has had a map update. It didn't do it before the map update...so the map update is the only thing that has changed?

Therefore the issue would be an issue with the map version, or a slight incompatibility between the maps and the cars software.

Is it really an issue though, apart from cosmetic? i.e. the additional Manchester entry has the accent, so is easily identifiable. I wonder what other names appear..and also, why not every destination is duplicated?

Kevin, you are correct, it isn't a major issue.. just mildly annoying. It would be nice if there was an easy fix, but it isn't really worth incurring big costs to fix.

As i said earlier, i think it is only major cities / towns which may have spellings in different languages... once one gets to town/village scale, the names are the same in all languages

But we think that we can use the same FSC code when the next map version is released?

I thought the Glasgow M74 extension might have made it on to the 2012 maps... :?

I never had a map update, my car is 3 weeks old and has two Manchesters.

Would not want to take my car there anyway :D

Yeah, mine is new as well, and has two Manchesters. I meant the op. Trying to narrow down if its the map or the idrive software. Not that I could do anything about it!

Are these codes car specific? i.e. could I get the code for my Z4 2012 map and put it on the 1'er?

I've spoken to the dealer today, not bothering to take the car back as it seems to match everyone else's experience here of the 2012 maps. Thankfully they've also agreed to not charge me, they have been very good to me over the life of this car. I'll wait for the next discs and see what happens then... for now, at least I can use the new routes, and thanks to the software upgrade, I even get to voice enter the entire address in one go (had to break addresses up before vocally, took ages).

my car is booked in to have the car recoded and the iDrive firmware updated next week. I'll report if it makes any progress on solving the multiple destination issue.

I've now got the latest car software as well as the latest maps... and I still have double of certain destinations. Crappy Map data... perhaps a later release will fix it.

I was looking on realOEM and came up with a part no for proper legit BMW 2012 update DVDs - p/n 65902218943 - £22 ex VAT from the dealer.
the "fsc Certificate" is the expensive part £150 ex Vat - p/n 65902218712.

I guess if you have an existing 2012 FSC code, this will work with the maps.

My setup was updated by me using the non dealer route, which went fine other than the double destinations. Figuring that it was my fault, the dealer erased the idrive entirely and put both their legit map data and their FSC code in. The result however was the same, and therefore the double data can only be due to a fault in the map data/discs full stop. in fact, I've now tried it on a new 1 series and a new 5 series also, and both have some duplication. A fact I hope the dealer will inform BMW UK of so they can fix it for the next release.

I got my car back today from a full firmware update.. the dealer crashed the firmware system doing the upgrade so had to keep it overnight for the re-installation, so I got a full re-coding FOC.
It hasn't solved the multiple destination issues, but there are subtle differences in hte menus and display on the iDrive...
so can confirm it would seem to be a mapping issue rather than a firmware issue

Just checked our iDrive system and the the navigation version is ECE 1.2.4 and the maps are European Premium 2008-2.

From this I'm assuming it's never been updated.

Is it possible to go straight to the latest software and maps or is this a staged upgrade?

I'll speak with out local dealer tomorrow to get a quote from them, but I'm also happy to look at other non-official options if they are available?

you can go can go straight from 2008-2 to 2012 premium - you can buy the original disks from the dealer (p/n 65 90 2 218 943) for £22 or download from unofficial sources and burn your own Dual layer DVDs and DIY install, but it is the FSC code which costs the cast (circa £180 iirc) or via unofficial sources - i have the OEM BMW DVDs here in front of me -
There is likely to be an Idrive firmware update which you might get FOC if the dealer installs the Maps, but you won't get it if you DIY.
