iDrive Navigation Map Update

this is an example of the problem. It is as if ut is displaying all languages, rather than just English

Mine is showing this as well.

Although i have to say ive still not noticed any other affects of the nav system being wrong. Maybe just a mapping bug?

I will check in my old mans new x5 he picked up last week, its got the same map version as we have i checked that already.

Ive just tried my car and the old mans X5 which is only 2 weeks old, both of them show 2 Manchester a 1 Doncaster. Edinburgh is the same as everyone else, lots of weird results on both cars.

Mine is 3 weeks old, so should be the same so your dad's X5.

Very odd all this, I think Z4 Beemer might have a point, in that upgrades are perhaps to blame for the number of results I see, but at the same time there's clearly something wrong with the standard maps given even PVRs X5 shot shows two Manchesters (I see those, plus a third listed at the top, or is the one at the top a recent I wonder).

A recent what? I did not route it, just selected MAN and that is what came up.

What is that second spelling with the funny a?

yip the a in the second Manchester entry has a 'acute' ovet it which made me wonder if we are having French Spellings too

Does seem like you have some sort of idrive firmware problem with your's Maniac. This is only a guess as my disks are from the same places as your's.

As other posters say i dont think there is a way for a minion to check there idrive version. I do know when i had mine in the dealer first time to have it "checked" and they did say they updated it to latest version it did change a few little bits and bobs on it. Silly little things like BMW online list order....although i hardly ever use it as it takes like 20-30 minutes to find a connection and when it does GOD its slow!!

Has anyone actually tried looking at the files on the DVD to see if the anomalies lie there?

I have, thanks for the compliment lol.. and I don't know what format they're on as my PC wouldn't read them. They burned OK, but I can't see anything on there, the drive just makes seeking noises over and over.. Given the OS is unix-like setup (QNX) I'm guessing they're not FAT format, that or my £30 DVD writer is just pants, entirely possible.

I'll see what happens on Friday and update from there. If they're going to do a complete flatten and install on all software, it should be as per a new car, not with perhaps bits left over from an upgrade.

Is their a setting somewhere for language, cos those duplicates look like different language versions?

The map version screen on my new Z4 is exactly the same as the one posted above by pvr on his X5. I havent tried for duplicates.

The thing is... during the upgrade the sat nav system is still usable (maps still viewable), which makes me think the old maps are sitting beside the new maps... or old data has been left around that its picking up....?

iirc you can set the car lanuage to english, french or spanish (or is it german)via the iDrive. i will check.
prrhaps we need to reconfirm the car language as English? i'll give it a try when i get home around 4:30

I still have the images on my pc at home and they can be loaded into MagicISO. I did have a look at the image but its just lots of folders with files in them, none of which i was able to open.

It seems for sure the 2012 map data is abit wonkey. There will be another update in a month or 2, the 2012i maps maybe that will fix the problems. Anyone who has brought the FSC codes for the 2012 map shouldnt need new 1's for the midway update.

All I'm really bothered about is that it doesn't lead me astray. It also makes me wonder if the routing times could be improved if its just searching one language rather than many?

Routing is nowhere near as good as the unit with the maps as on the E85/E86. They changed suppliers of maps and the new system is not great :x
