Have a great rip guys. Not in the least bit jealous sitting here in Sunderland in the rain. 8)

A couple of days into our Northern Iberia trip..map shows basic area but not the detailed route as that involved a lot of the minor roads ..

I think in terms of a driving holiday this area takes some beating..with epic views, both sweeping and twisty roads, a lack of camper vans, motorbikes and general traffic it’s probably the last great place in Europe for a road trip..

Having done the NC500, Pyrenees, France, Alps etc it’s my favourite due to the lack of conflict / congestion / conflict with other traffic / tourists..

Almost exclusively only Spanish traffic and not much of it..

Pity it’s such an expensive route to access..although prices for food and drink are very reasonable …

Thanks to Earthdweller for organising the trip..

Looks fabulous Peter. Weather looks like it's being kind to you as well.

I love this part of the world having walked two 500 mile pilgrimages to Santiago de Compostella in recent years. I was there last month as well, walking from A Coruna. I found the food and drink prices to be VERY reasonable, so low in fact that you wonder how they do it?

Ultreia!

A few more from yesterday :driving:

Yup..2 euros for cokes and coffees in the little towns..hotels get pricey near the coast and I guess peak Spanish holiday times but nothing like the rip off around the NC500 / Scotland these days..

The lack of obvious police enforcement is also a blessing..

We’re expecting light rain this afternoon in Oviedo where we are staying in a swish hotel..off to the Fernando Alonso museum this afternoon forma bit of ‘culture’…

Change of circumstances meant I’ve had to cut short my Iberian odyssey…so I said goodbye to the rest of the gang today….(although I had to do a 100 mile loop extra as I left my bag with wallet and passports beside the car when I left :headbang: )…

Broken the back of my penultimate day’s drive…in this quasi Rapunzel hotel for the evening…nice to be supplied with a colour matched room…after mostly unremitting sunshine last 20 miles in the mountains were ‘moist’…

Only a 45 minute drive to the ferry tomorrow…👌

The Spanish road system just keeps on giving…almost all roads are in excellent condition, freshly tarmac’d and Armco most places to stop you dropping off the mountains..almost devoid of traffic..not necessarily the best behaved motorists…remarkably ‘fuzz’ free..

I’ll definitely be back for another B21 Heavy Industries tour…
