Nothing wrong with a gearbox that'll change gear faster than any human

All new 991's PDK's are uprated just like the 150 completely new components in the engine over the 997.2

With respect, you do come over a little hostile to 911's, had a bad experience have you, or are you a bit short of the folding stuff

Every car company has problems with some of their cars, even BMW and one of the worse is Mercedes Benz

Hmmm. Aren't many modern sports cars, such as Lambos and Ferraris, now 'automatic' ? Surely in this day and age we're past the 'it has to be manual to be a real sports car' argument, especially when talking about prestige / high performance marques ?

For me the issue with Autos/DCTs/whatever is that you can't guarantee they'll shift when you want them to. At least in a manual, you might shift slower, but it shifts exactly when you want it to.

I like the twin clutch boxes. My Golf decided to eat its own gearbox though, probably due to over tuning it but hey ho. I'd certainly look at a similar system in any performance car now

Im neither short of the folding, hostile or had (many) bad experiences with my previous 911's......I bet your willy is bigger than mine too...
But i am a realist, and no amount of clever advertising blurb will convince me that your paying a massive amount for a car that,in reality isnt great...

Perhaps coming from an engineering background i see the mechanical faux pas that other people dont spot???

Since becoming water cooled the 911 has dropped off massively in quality, not only in fit and finish but also in engineering quality..The company was in dire straights financially, and they needed to cut massive corners with the development of every area of the 996... Thats why the high volume sellers are so poor in every aspect. There is no way a C2/C4 was worth anything like there 70/80k pricetag, and neither was the C4S...

Thats why you can now buy one for £7k..I have seen the odd tatty one at 5k..

The turbo's are better,The GT2 and GT3 are a superb track weapon and a brilliant road car....No doubt..

Bing... I have nothing against an "auto"..They are great....But the PDK was sh!te when it first emerged..Many many tales of them not even last 1000 miles before they crapped there oil or internals...( what kind of testing or QC must it have passed ??)...Drivability issues, jerky selection, loss of drive..
This isnt acceptable on a 20k car never mind a 100k+ car..

Remember what the 911 is.. Its a small uncomplicated car,not groundbreaking in any area,no innovation...But they cant get it right,or reliable..

I don't know about the DCT system, but the VW DSG is fully manual if you put it in that mode. It will only over-ride if you bounce the rev limiter or bog it down

Z4M-2006, i'm not a Porsche expert in any way, so thanks for replying, appreciate it

IIRC I think SARS was saying something similar about the 911 layout

As a budget track weapon, by all accounts the Cayman S takes a bit of beating.

But then so does a Caterham...

Aye..

A 3.2 S Boxster is a good cheap track tool too....I love the handling of the boxster...

We repair a R500 Caterham that is used on the track, but is fully road legal and it is absolutely mental....

I have never driven anything so fast...

A nicely built locost is a great trackday car too, even the best can be had for 10k....

1/ Well I'm not getting it out so you'll just have to wonder

2/ You should try the modern PDK box it's amazing :o

3 Also are you saying the finish inside and out is naff on a 991? sit in one and I think you'll change your mind

Had a good nosy at a 991 at local porsche indy day & the interior looked & felt pretty good .
The stance from the rear is much softer & less shaped than the 997 it replaces which was a disappointment for me
The wing mirrors however were the biggest faux pas for me  a definite step backwards from the 997 8) very lexus IS http://procarkits.co.uk/images/categories/lexus_is_220d_sport_28_04_06.jpg
& appear to be an afterthought ?
No doubt it drives supreme though
