I miss my hometown Liverpool sometimes. Only sometimes though ;)

What a pity that someone from Liverpool saw fit to post this clip on here, I am Liverpool born and bred and am amazed that a fellow Liverpudlian would post such an item. It has taken the city 27 years to recover from the stereotyping that was inflicted upon the city after the now infamous Hillsborough disaster, due to the gutter press in this country. We don't have people from other parts of the country knocking their own cities on here, I am sure that people from, Birmingham, London, Nottingham. Glasgow etc could all find similar things to post. but they don't. If you have to post something about Liverpool, show something positive, every city has this sort of mentality, but we also have lots of positives RANT OVER :headbang:

I live just over the river and did live in Liverpool on the docks for a year or so , I think it's a great place , and I speak with a strong north east accent , so I'm not defending it from a loyalty perspective .
The girl in the original post lives in every town or city in England and in most villages , it's just in some peoples sheltered worlds they never get to see it . Everywhere in England has good and bad in it , I've lived in a few lovely places that once you scratch the surface are no different to anywhere else .

I've also lived in different locations in the UK and abroad but have always maintained a base in Liverpool. I lived in London for 6 years (University then 1st job), Barrowford in Lancs for 6 years, Wlocktawek in Poland for a year, Holland-Liverpool for the past 16 years, the last 5 years 90% in Holland. That gives me a perfect vantage point to take a quantitative view on how things seem to be gradually changing in my hometown.
Don't get me wrong, I love Liverpool and am the first to defend it when it comes up in conversation and defending it is sadly usally the way it goes in those conversations. However, everytime I go back there it does actually just seem to get worse and worse. I could be specific but I won't as I know it would wrankle people here.
I'm sure my experience is possibly unique and it's not a representative or majority opinion but seeing that video just consolidated my opinion. I make no apologies for that.

I suppose this is why some folks elect to 'not do the bus'.

In years to come, people will look back on this as a typical Liverpool scene, where in years gone by people fondly remember the nostalgic scenes of the lamplighters in the streets going about their business trailing the distinctive smell of parrafin oil, delivered by horse-drawn cart disappearing down a wet cobble street and the warm, welcoming, yellow light of the shop windows glistening on the cobbles while a friendly match-seller plies her trade on the bottom step of the 'dockers umbrella' overhead railway while singing dockers merrily make their way home to a warm meal and a glass of stout.
What happened to people? Or am i being overly, nostalgically idealistic? Lol

I went to University in Liverpool and had a great time living there. I found it a fun a vibrant city that I still enjoy going back to. I have always found the people to be very friendly. Obviously there are areas to avoid and that is the exact same as Nottingham where I now live.

I have seen similar things happen here on the busses and trams and the same on the tube whilst working in London unfortunately I think this is a common ocurance in most major cities.

Exactly , it's more a sign of the times and much the norm than any specific area . There's a case to say London is a dump full of tramps , only because I see more down and outs and litter there than I've seen in any other town , but I'm sure there's nice parts also

It's no different in any city - whether Liverpool, London, Manchester, Leeds, Nottingham etc. What was posted is symptomatic of a common attitude prevalent amongst far too many, wherever they come from. Go back 10, 20 years and society was a lot different, irrespective of location, so whilst OP has a point, it isn't specific to one city.
