I know why our cars are having so many problems...

No no, you miss my point.

I'm not saying the Z4 is inherantly faulty...I'm saying that they used the discounts to tempt buyers to buy so they could flush through the duff parts, then, when the summer oders come in and the price is high again, they will have good parts.

Tim - you were affected - the part that caused your engine whine was one of the duffers they needed to shift.

My car has a crap roof seal.

JDM was very unlucky in that on the day his car was built, they were really at the bottom of the barrel.

People who bought the cars outside of the jan-march period were either just unlucky, or victims of previous duff-part-shift schemes.

Nice idea but sadly no modern volume factory of any size maintains parts stock, its all JIT supply chain logistics. :)

Its not a Bugatti Veyron is it, where an aerospace company has to spend two weeks fabricating a suspension cage....its a volume car built on a 3-series platform, so bits come in one side of the factory at 8am and go out the other as finished vehicles by 5pm.

When I dropped it off I took a photo of the dash showing mileage (and full tank of fuel).

When its been in before I used the iphone app that works with the connected drive to show the location of the car (cos I had the same worry!) and it was where it should be!

The loan 1'er I have only has 10 miles fuel range left in it, so I'll need to put some more in. It hurts putting fuel in other peoples cars...even though I am using it up

Hope its all sorted soon Kevin :) although the way things are going most roof down happiness is going to be in the winter :D

I hear that a lot... the e85/e86 was built on the prior 3 series, but the e89 was built ground up, sharing only a few parts of the steering/suspension...

Be a miracle if they build your motor in a day, I think it takes around 36 hours. When the dealer kept me posted they called me on a Monday to say all parts had been assembled and again the Wednesday to say it had been finished.

Yours was built on a day when they were digging out the dregs of the crap parts, so there was a very short period of time when no duff parts were available (they were re-stocking) so they had to use pucka parts on yours.

Just incase I've mis-read some of the replies, and just to clarify, this thread is a tongue-in-cheek laugh at our situation of having new cars with problems. I've gone past the crying stage and am now laughing hysterically..... :o

- me too. I bought one of the last 3.0 E89s. I've done 30,000 miles with no problems at all so far. 8)

I'm getting a Dec 10 3.0 E89 next week and only hope I have the same result ! :)
