How wet ?

I was driving home tonight with the top down and noticed the windscreen was a little dirty. It crossed my mind to use the washer with the wipers, but not with the topdown.

That made me wonder;

1. Who will admit to using the windscreen washer/wipers with the top down ?
2. How wet did you or the interior of the Z4 get ?

:D

Thanks
Paul

Ive done it plenty - water drips in from the top side along the seals if you spray alot of water on - otherwise its fine!

Ive done that plenty of times too, tend to go a for a half pull on the lever rather than a full one though.

minimal wetness :D

Done it lots of time but as gannet says be gentle the only problem I find is with the drivers window down it come round the side and drips in the inside of the door so I tend to put the drivers window up for a bit first.

I've also had the same dilemma, top down dirty windscreen....do I wash, or do I put up with it?
In the past I've always erred on the side of caution and driven on with the dirty screen! I might now be tempted now I know that I won't get an impromptu shower.

Depends on how fast you're going.A half pull does the job, but so does doing it at over 80 mph ( 130 kph),it goes straight over your head. But TBH, a half pull driving nice and slowly is by far the best way.

Am I the only one who switches the lights off first to avoid the bonnet spray?

Someone posted a link up the other day to a youtube film of the guys in Mythbusters testing how fast you need to go to not get wet with the top down when it is raining.

i think they reckoned on ~ 60 + MPH and you'd be pretty safe.

Just means you need to either drive out of the rain before putting the top up or pulling to a dead stop from 60 under shelter.

Although the aerodynamics might make a bit of a difference cant imagine too much as i think they were in a fairly new Merc

Just out of interest, do you happen to have the link to that Mythbusters video on Youtube?
Cheers,

not being a rag top owner this is just a thought, does speed have much effect?

er edit, why did i not spot the previous posts regarding speed :headbang:

When I had my TF i stayed more or less totally dry with the hood down in moderate rain if travelling above 40mph. In proper lashing, torrential rain I've stayed mostly dry at 70mph.

I also switch the lights off before washing the screen lol :D

Arrr - so this is what activates/deactives the headlamp wash thus bonnet and wing spray :)

I can beat that - I've removed the fuse to deactivate the headlamp wash completely

Although in honestly it was to avoid them working and me losing a washer cover - happened a lot on a previous car...

You also get wet if you do this in a Coupe, with the window down, and I've done it more than once

Obviously a very exciting drive then ... :D

I did. Just gave a very quick "wash pulse", i didn't want to saok the windscreen. None of it made its way to the interior.
