I did this recently when I skinned my dash trims in carbon fiber. You have to remove the dash trim what is brushed aluminium in your photo and then you can remove the button from behind by pushing tabs either side and at same time pushing the button out. To remove the aluminium trim you have to remove the radio and surrounding trim and also the center console trim. This video will give you a better idea:

No you dont - get something really sticky like gorilla tape or sticky clay putty, mush it on to the button, pull hard and fast and it will pop out, might take a few tries but it works..
Changed my start button for a c rystal one a while back, took ten minutes.

Oh cool for the trick. I was already wondering how to unmount complete panel
So any rings or something else keeping button behind/inside panel ? :D

The actual button just has plastic clips, they click back in when you push it back in after removal. If you want to remove the buttons housing that is a different matter. The ‘trick’ will remove the sliding assembly within the button housing.

In think this only works for the centre button (the bit that you push) it won't remove the complete button, to do that you have to get at it from behind, there are two tabs either side that need to be pushed in, in order for the complete button to be removed.

That black ring where your arrow is pointed too is separate from the actual button (the bit stamped Start Stop Engine). Doing it the way Mark Butler mentioned you will only remove the middle button bit. To be honest I am not sure how you would remove the ring bit, I think it is part of the housing. You could remove the start stop button bit with something sticky as mentioned and then see if you can remove the ring whilst still in situ in the dash, if not you will have to remove the whole button from the back like I mentioned.

Just out of interest what are you planning to do with this button?

For anyone that has had their starter button out, can the inner black ring (worn piece in the photo below) be removed separately? I plan to replace my button, but was going to tidy up the worn ring when it was stripped down.

I know you can buy a trim which sticks on top, but thought I'd give this a sand and spray instead if possible.

Yes - just use something sticky, press it onto the button.

Then quick fast pull - it pops right out.

i wouldn;t spend time cleaning it up - replacements are available for like £2.
