How-To - e89 Cruise Control Retro-fit

I don't have cruise control on my E89. I'm sure some of the cars I've had in the past, that CC would only operate above 30 mph. If specifically wanted for the 20 mph limits in lots of Wales, might be worthwhile confirming it will operate at that speed.

Possibly CC won't work, but limiter should, shouldn't it? :)

The lowest speed that the E89 Cruise works from is 20mph
There is no Speed Limiter available for any of the E Series BMW's

(For reference, Cruise keeps you at a pre-defined speed, and Speed Limiter stops you going over a speed, but you still have control of the accelerator - For anyone who may not know! )

From my experience of other makes, the speed limiter can be overridden by planting the accelerator to the floor - useful in emergencies.

Yeah it's the same with our Ford Kuga

Hi, firstly, great video and guide to fitting the cruise control unit. I have just followed it and fitted this to my e89 that is my first fun car (at 35 years old). However, I used the slip ring that came with the storks, is this why I have a lot of error codes? Or is it just some programming required? Any help is much appreciated!

If you follow the video and How-To, after you have coded the cruise control in there is a last step that resets the Steering Angle Sensor, thus getting rid of the fault lights.

Hi again,
So i'm just wondering if this is something i can code using bimmercode? i have this already but have never used the advanced option which i guess i'd have to for this?

Alas I can't say one way or the other as I don't have Bimmercode, I only work with the BMW Tools package as shown in the video.

Ahhhh, so i have bought the wrong coding tool. Whoops! The link in the Dropbox doesn't work unfortunately. The one labeled BIMMERGEEKS STANDARD TOOLS

Yeah the link it totally beyond my control as its an external link. It is available on the Internet if you search "BMT Tools"

Hi Dave,

Im a newbie so im not able to DM you.

I have a Z4 2010 3.0 manual, I have purchased the stalks and column shroud. I am confident in fitting those components but the coding is probably beyond me.

Would it be possible for me to pay you to code it to the car?

Thanks

Chris

Hi, I keep asking the question but no replies . I am trying to download the software but the links provided in part 2 do not connect. I have tried to get the tools but a lot seems to have been taken down. A simple question best tools to follow the guide , and where do I get them. A copy of BMW basic tools or a link to one that will open.
Thanks

Hi all, well I have the BMW coding tools . Loaded them onto the computer but have not got a clue what to do with them . I feel confident about following the instructions provided by David but just cannot get my head around the installation. Can anyone assist or recommend someone to do it remotely . I thought it would be just plug in the cable and follow the instructions. The retro fit went well just the usual 2 faults. Although I wanted the satisfaction of completing the job myself , I don't think so .

For the file called "BMW Standard Tools.7z" open this with either 7zip or Winrar. Once you unzip the package you'll find "Bimmergeeks Standard Tools". Inside this you'll find a list of various folders and a txt file called "Install Instructions", follow these instructions to install the main tools with the "St212.exe" package (follow it to the letter!!!).
Once it's installed, move on to the other folders for SP_Datens, Profiles, com ports and OBD Drivers.

Hi David, I'm so near but so far. Loaded all the files, it's just the command prompt it won't accept. Opened as administrator. My computer is windows 10 64 bit. Could it be that I have made a mistake loading the files. Also do I transfer all the files from THE OCX to the c drive just 3 as stated
Thanks again
