How-To - e89 Cruise Control Retro-fit

cvhuis said:
Hello,

I am Cor and recently bought an e89 without the cruise-control.

I did read this item and want to retrofit the cruise-control myself, did earlier coding on my e85.
So i'm wondering if there is a fallback if it's not working?

I suppose just put back the original switches and put back the original man file, but what about the
other settings?

Hi Cor,

Did a retrofit myself six months ago. Followed all instructions, everything went without any issues, except code all modules (had to do it module by module). Ordered the steering column switch donored from an E90 (numbers matched) and used the existing coil spring cartridge, so no need to buy a new one.

I am located in Amsterdam and I do still have the original stuff which came off my E89. Might be helpful in case you should break something :D

Hi I have recently purchased a e89 2.5 2009, a fantastic car, but I would love to have cruise control fitted, I have come across your post on this forum and was hoping you might be able to help. I understand you have the equipment etc, I’m a complete techno fob and would really appreciate your help, I live in Suffolk to not to far away.
I look forward to hearing from you and hope we can sort something out.

Kind Regards

Ashley Watson.

Ashley,

You should receive an email from me (via the forum) very soon with details

Hi guys, I've recently retrofitted cruise to my 2013 2.0i using Dave's excellent guide. When setting the cruise, should there be a light on the speedo showing the set speed as per the owners manual, or is it just the central display that comes on for 2 seconds then goes out?

Hi Jon,
As you say it's only the central display. You can have the speedo indication but you'd need to change the whole cluster which is a whole new ball game!

Thanks for the reply, yeah that's what I thought. Really chuffed with the install and thanks again for your excellent guide and YouTube vid.

I've found that you can just press the end button and it will show the speed again anyway

Cheers
Jon

Thank you all for the work

Have you loaded the new profiles (as per the How-To)?
At step 22 it should be "Expermodus (offen)"

I'm currently in the process of re-writing the How-To with a new source for the BMW Tools program download that is entirely in English! Hopefully I'll have this uploaded over the Christmas holiday period, and a new YouTube video to go with it all.

Ok, for your initial profile (step 3) go with "Expertenmodus (Werkseinstellung)"
Then for the second profile (step 22) go with "FSWPSW-MANIPULATE"

That should sort it out.

I hit this problem too a couple of weeks ago when fitting mine - as above, the actual downloaded file behind that profile name above is indeed the "Expermodus (offen)" file! Very confusing when you're sitting in a freezing car cradling a laptop at 11:30 pm :D

Forgot one thing too - I've thanked elsewhere but possibly in a thread Dave hasn't stumbled upon, so just to re-iterate...

Huge thanks to Dave and his guides - the YouTube video was absolutely invaluable.

Having completed it myself cradle to grave and written off most of a weekend doing so - I would strongly advise anyone else to just pay Dave to do it.

Thanks guys

There is a new How-To video due out over Christmas along with the new program source and written guide. I've just got to screen-grab the new shots to go into the guide and it'll be ready. There is some more info included, things like the torque setting for the steering wheel nut and more info on the types of stalks etc
