How often, do you drive it like you stole it?

Sorry you have the wrong end of the stick completely! Sorry if you thought I was responding to your post, I was referring to the OP, as I mentioned in my post I refrained from quoting him in case he wanted to edit his original post (if you quote someone you effective stop them editing things they have second thoughts about). As you were 8)

No probs, I thought it was a bit heavy. We're squared away.

Not bl**dy likely.

I've got to go and sit in the naughty chair in a weeks time for exceeding a variable speed limit on a motorway. Interestingly it's a "Motorway Awareness Course" as opposed to a "Speed Awareness Course" they've sent me to. :(

Just for info - the cameras on motorways have moved from the overhead gantries to the stanchions on the left hand side. So it's no good looking up as you approach to see if there's a camera there. Not that I'd condone such behaviour....................

You are not alone. I drove north on the A14 on Friday where there is a 40mph speed limit around Cambridge. I was amazed at the number of drivers who overtook me doing well over 40. During a six month period 4500 were fined on that stretch. I guess a few more will have speeding fines heading their way. 😏

Me too. I'm on that stretch of A14 once or twice a month (unfortunately). Bloody nightmare road to get to the fantastic City of Cambridge. When is the new A14 opening up?
How do you know that 4500 drivers were done on there?

The work is supposed to be finished by the end of 2020. You can see some figures for speeding fines here https://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/news/cambridge-news/a14-speeding-roadworks-40mph-fines-14643921

Fortunately we only use this road when heading for the Channel Tunnel so about 4 times a year. Must be a real PITA for those who use it on a regular basis. 😟

A14 is one of the busiest roads - and surely most frustrating to drive on - in the country; it is a disgrace it has taken this long for it to be upgraded. Full of lorries heading to Harwich and East of England traffic heading south. Had it been in London it would have been sorted out years ago.

Sorry for slight thread hijack OP.

Enjoyed a few miles following a 458 today. Like a cat with a mouse following it.. I hope he enjoyed toying with me as much as I enjoyed listening to him nail it through a few bouts of accelerative thrust. 8)

Apologies for heading off-topic again, but motorways are few and far between around London.

The M2 that should go to Dover (with plenty of HGV traffic for the Port) runs out at Canterbury. :headbang:

The M23 that ought to go to Brighton (and the ferry at Newhaven) runs out just South of Gatwick. :headbang:

The North-West seems to have more Motorways than all of the South-East!

Anyone who needs to use the A14 ought to be grateful - just come and try the M25 in rush hour before you form an opinion.

It's got to the point in the S.E. that I find A roads quicker than Motorways these days! The M3 and M25 are "Smart" Motorways with variable limits and cameras, so I don't bother with them.

It's quicker to use the A3 that has a mostly 70 limit (for now) and few cameras (for now) which does mean you can have some fun if you are in the mood (for now)!

You know, in a few years time when we're all driving electric, autonomous vehicles we're going to look fondly back on these times.

When they're gone, they'll be well and truly gone. :(

We are all highly skilled driving gods with perfect judgement (obviously) but things go wrong. I honestly hope you you don't end up regretting moments of madness like that on the road, people do, even driving gods. Apart from which it's a pretty daft thing to post, it being available for perpetuity to the authorities, insurance investigators and future buyers. I haven't quoted just in case you wanted to edit
Nicely put.
Mind you, in his defence your honour it was a 3am post 🤪
It wasn't that time in Kansas City though (where the OP lives) 8)

Fair comment, in which case he has no defence :)

Not really driving like I stole it so much, usually comfortably within the cars limits.

I do like to light the rears up sometimes from a standing start and give it a prod when turning out of a junction. Also quite often take it to the right side of the speedo when the roads are empty. Don't have the balls to fully drift a roundabout but I let it do a skid occasionally

I'm sure the old farts on here will be shocked that some people drive at any speed other than 40mph though :poke:

I have to admit it, my MX5 is much more fun to drive fast than my 35i. With my 5 I can properly thrash it around, let the back end out, hammer it through the bends and never feel like I’m going to kill myself. With my 35i it’s so much quicker and with so much more grip, I have to be going a hell of a lot faster to get anywhere near as much exhilaration but that means very high speeds long with all the risks that brings.
Mostly the Z is my daily commuter commuter and I just have a bit of fun when I get a rare bit of clear road for a moment which usually ends quickly when I catch up to the car in front.

Then is the question not covering the ground quickly or being on the edge?

Speeding can have really serious consequences.
Over 100mph they can, and usually will take your car, permanently and arrest you.
So, a criminal record and a lot of cash gone on your car, fines, loss of licence, points, insurance up etc etc.
I was told this by a cop on the tolpuddle bypass who stopped me at 135mph in my C63 at 02:00 one morning. He gave me a ticket for 95 mph so I could not do the course but only got a fine. He did this because my wife was ill and asleep in the car with me, thank god.
He explained the whole process to me and its not pretty...

Agree with your views there totally, it’s not gonna be pretty being stopped at the 100 + top police officer though, same thing happened to one of our drivers when I was chauffeuring a few years back , cop gave him a ticket for 95 , that’s the one thing you left out, it’s bad enough getting your license taken, and all you said, but quite a lot of us need our license directly fit the jobs we do also, so could end up with a carrier suicide :headbang:

Often I drive like a hooligan but not as to exceed the speed limit by much -

For example, If theres a 40 speed limit ill try to go max 45, but I try to get to 45 shifting late.

For me there's quite nothing like the exhaust note from the e89 6 cyl engine especially when you go above 4k RPM - music to my ears !!! :driving:

Agree with the above. Though the ///MR is an event to drive, for me at least,, at any speed. My daily is a cheaply little Mazda2. So being fortunate enough to also have 3 roadsters available to drive on Cornish back roads, I get to enjoy the open air life, pretty regularlly.

Have to ask, why you are selling your Mx5.?

+ a %age of your income
+ when you get your licence back, you start from zero (all previous auto entitlement for trailers, lorry or van wiped away)
+ with the rise of prosecutions from private dash cams, chances of getting caught are rising exponentially

...just glad I drove during the 80’s & 90’s - getting to drive frequently on the autobahns gets quite a bit out the system legally, though been quite a few incidents recently going tits up & it’s not even Autumn yet

I didn't know they could confiscate your car in the UK. I thought it was ban from driving for doing over 100
