How much do you guys pay for insurance

£260 esure, 12K pa, no points (Steph may have 3 coming  ), on drive, £250 excess, 12 years ncd (protected) 58 years old + 54 Steph

:driving:

Around US $ 3,000, 2015 35is, 59 year old, no points, suburban New Jersey, driving less than 2k miles per year.

(NJ has the second highest auto insurance in the US)

All the talk of cheap insurance I think I need to move - SW London not good for £££. I will be over 50 at renewal (just) so hope that being grumpy and older makes a £ difference before they start putting it up year by year as I go senile :D

I was paying 360 on the 2.0 E89, 49 years old, max no claims with protection, garaged with Adrian Flux. Swapped over to BMW insurance last year when I changed to the M135i and premium was 460. Renewal has just come through and dropped to 430. I'm paying 330 on the Z3 which I've just renewed with Adrian Flux.

Feel I'm paying too much as Stafford is hardly the crime centre of the world :|

Tim.

I'm paying £340 on my 2014 20i with BMW insurance. Full NCD and NCD protection. 67 years old.

Renewal is August, I may shop around although I've been very happy with BMW, their customer service is good, they don't make any charges for minor changes to policy details like other companies do.

£330 with saga for a 3.0 E89
67 so full codger status and ncb - garaged

Dreading what it's going to be at 70 :(

Warning - Boring Bit

Buying Car Insurance is just like buying any other product: you have to make sure you fully understand what you're getting for your money. It's great to feel you've got insured for £50 and can now get on the road: until some chav sideswipes you and you find out that you don't quite have the level of cover you thought you had.

I was all set to go with some of the on-line quotes: £165 for a 35i? Bring it on - I'll have that: until I phoned them and in each case the price started going up, and some of the conditions were appalling like being tied to their own repair shops. Having seen the outcome of some of these and the use of pattern parts and the "conveyor belt" approach to repair, then at the very least you want to be able to use a BMW approved repairer or repairer of your own choice. Not all bodyshops are equal.

Anyway: 35i, Comprehensive SD+P, 5 years NCD (protected), age 62, garaged, nil points, £350 xs, £300 premium. Put my wife on the policy and the quote came down!! Chris Knott.

(And 3 year GAP cover at £151 - BMW offered me a "special deal" at £700!).

More should take notice of this - ie read the small print
These cheap insurers might be ok for some but if it's a special interest car then it's better to have the car insured properly.

Remember if it's cheap - then it's probably cheap for a reason.

I've no idea whether BMWs unsurance is any good, hope I never have to use it but one of the reasons I went with them is as I have the M135i on BMWs PCP Select then its kinda makes sense to me as its all in one package and hopefully should the worst happen then I know the motor will get sorted by BMW etc. I've come across insurers being funny or demanding you take the car to a bodyshop recommended by them, i.e. probably the cheapest. I know you can ignore this and use any bodyshop? but could be added stress at a time you need it least.

I had a claims with them when some old boy hit me on the A1, they were happy for it to go to BMW however when I asked who they used one of their approved garages was a guy who restores old classics. He used all BMW parts and made a better job of the car than BMW did when it came out the factory. Paintwork was amazing!

The guy who owned the place told me that my dealer no longer had a BMW approved body shop and they now tendered the work to the cheapest quote, the dealer then charged BMW prices for the work so actually was pretty glad that I used one of the approved repair guys.

I looked at Aviva and they only use BMW approved body shops when claims are made. You can actually check against your brand and location and they will tell you the body shop they would use in the event of a claim.

Admiral were seamless and it all went smoothly. The garage had the car for 4 weeks, seems a long time but it was done correctly and I'd rather it took a bit of times instead of being rushed. Hence why I decided not to go with direct line as their advert says if your cars not fixed in 7 days they pay you. I'd rather if it's needing work due to an accident it takes at least 7 days, if not longer.

I don't believe that by law they can't force you to use thier authorised repair facilities, just like you can't be forced to use a main dealer for servicing BUT they can make it a right PITA for you as they usually want quotes and then haggle on the prices.

Edit - missed a 't' of can't

I use admiral as they don't bite your arm off for mods. I pay 350 all mods declared. My tip - declare all mods together otherwise u pay administration fee every time u change something
