How long to charge battery

My first Z4 was off road during winter and battery is flat. Can jump start it but how much running is required to top up battery again. Took it to local garage for MOT and during 15 min run there and back, various warning lights flashed periodically - would this be normal, ie symptom of low charge?

With low battery you will get lot of electrical glitches warning lights etc... if possible you should consider a smart charger like a CTEK that can be left on a car.. ideal for keeping a battery in good condition during winter months if not in use.

Bought it a year ago and would imagine it's the orginal one, so 6 years old.

Batteries don't like to be flattened for long periods and, given it's age, I would think you need to get a new battery. If you change it, have everything to hand and make the change to the new battery as quickly as you can. Did mine in under a minute and found that I only needed to re-set the clock.

Flat batteries can be saved.

get yourself a welder firstly.

empty the battery of its juice.

put new acid in.

get a welder, slap it on the contacts a few times

stick battery on charge with a conditioner.

brand new battery.

note: I don't take any responsibility if you spill acid and end up with a hole in your hand or similarly you shock yourself) oh and this method will only work with conventional flooded cells. agm, sealed type batteries can't be fixed in the same way.

Personally, aside from all that hassle, get yourself a Bosch S6 agm battery. Aside from XS Power's D series (stupidly expensive for what is in essence a battery), I would only use Bosch's S6 line. (Again, everyone has their own preference, but I've found the two mentioned brands to be highly reliable)

If you are going for CTEK charger with a smart charge facility make sure you get one with a deep recharge/reconditioning facility which the makers claim can salvage most batteries that have been completely discharged. The motor engineers I work with really rate them.
