How do I convince SWMBO I need new wheels

Getting back on topic

I contacted Chris about the 313 replica wheels. A set with the ET40 would fit the Z4 fine. The fronts would need a 12mm spacer and longer bolts which he can supply and the rears are ET40 as standard.

I was at Odeon leicester last night and i seen an E90 with a set of these on and god they looked good!! Stunning wheels

If the front and rear are both ET40, presumably they are the same width (e89 standard for offset alloys is 8.0 @ ET29 and 8.5 @ ET40), if its 8.0 then you will need spacers on all 4, if they are 8.5 I would be worried that the fronts will rub on lock, if you add a spacer to the front then they might protrude out too far.

Sars raises some good points, there's a big difference between wheels that will fit and wheels that will run and handle correctly on your car. I would always look to get as close to the original manufacturers offsets as possible and avoid spacers if you can. If you are replacing with larger width wheels then as Sars mentions, you need to be careful that the fronts wont rub on full lock or that the tyres rub under suspension compression.

Use one of the on-line wheel offset tools to check the proposed fit compared to your OEM wheels.

This is from the 2009 Z4 Price Book, which shows the OEM wheel and tyre sizes available on the 2009 Z4. The offsets for the 296 style wheels are

Front ET 29
Rear ET 40

I don't have the offsets for the other wheels to hand I'm afraid. This would be good to collate as part of a FAQ though.

Z4 wheels / tyres
19" Style 296
Front, 225/35R19 - 8x19 - ET 29
Rear, 255/30R19 - 9x19 - ET40

18" Style 293
Front, 225/40R19 - 8x18 - ET 29
Rear, 255/35R18 - 8.5x18 - ET 40

17" Style 290
Front, 225/45R17 - 8x17 - ET 29
Rear, 225/45R17 - 8x17- ET29

I went for a set of 157 style 17" from a e90 335 coupe as winter wheels which are 225/45/R17 8*17 ET34 all round

I dont fancy messing with spacers, longer bolts, rubbing on full lock so keeping things OEM

Chris also has the 313-style design on order in an 18", but they're not due for 10-12 weeks. I'd love a set in this style on my own e90 but just struggling to get my head around the price of 19" tyres (plus the worse ride on 19 vs 18). Luckily the offsets are suitable for direct fitment on e90s - my 18" are ET34 (f) and ET37 (r).

Whats the OEM 313 style wheel offset, I know they do one for the previous shape 1 series in 18"

According to http://felgenkatalog.auto-treff.com/, seems there's 3 variation of the OEM 313-style wheel.

1er E87 u.a.
7,5x18 vorne 215/40R18 Reifenpreis bei ReifenDirekt.de anzeigen ET 49 11,00
8,5x18 hinten 245/35R18 Reifenpreis bei ReifenDirekt.de anzeigen ET 52 11,93

3er E90 ff.
8x19 vorne 225/35R19 Reifenpreis bei ReifenDirekt.de anzeigen ET 37 12,63
9x19 hinten 255/30R19 Reifenpreis bei ReifenDirekt.de anzeigen ET 39 13,27

Z4 E89

9x19 hinten 255/30R19 Reifenpreis bei ReifenDirekt.de anzeigen ET 40 13,27

I'm out anyway as I just bought a set of style-189 18" for using with winters this year :)

Unsure yet, just priced some up on mytyres over lunch now that I know what wheel size I'll be rolling on. Probably Kumho KW27 (which I ran in 16" on my Z4 for the past 3 years), Falken HS439 or Hankook W310 going by availability and prices. I've still got my old 104-style 16" with KW27's to sell but they won't fit an e89 - I ran them on my e85 for a couple of winters and they're great IME.

Well I am partway there, picked up 2 326m wheels today, got a good price IMO, just need 2 more, all tucked away in the garage, SWMBO need not know yet

There were two on the for sales section here, got them both for £275, looking out on ebay for another front and back, better than £500+ for dealers

I am suprised how wide the rears are :o

Very good price. They are close to £600 ech I think from dealer. Are they in good condition? With centre caps?

Yes they are in good condition, they need a refurb (very small marks on the edge) and no centre caps, but I have OEM excellent conditon centres on my current wheels

You'll be fine then - keep the same centre caps and she'll never notice the difference :|
