House Hunt UK (sorted)

Ok, I was going to post this on facebook, but hey it's a lot of rambling by me and I don't want facebook to die.

Ok, this will be long. As ya'll know i'm house hunting in the UK. Torn between a few places (basically hoping putting it in words will help me figure what I want). Feel free to comment about what I type because after about 3 more places I'm at the end of my list and am currently leaning towards 2 right now. Since most don't know me too personally, I'm a nut for a nicely laid out (and eye appealing) kitchen and bathroom. I like the older looking stuff as well as newer. I'm leaning towards houses because I really enjoy turning up sound system (not the best setup but respectable) especially when playing rock band. Most of my career I've had at least a flight of stairs. Maybe I'm lazy but kinda don't want it again. Also, I've mostly lived close to base, now that I have a car worth driving I want to live further away so I can have therapy to/from work. If I say close it's within 15 minutes, far is 30min and mostly my personal limit.

#1 http://tinyurl.com/n4qyohBig yard, 1 story house, 3 bedrooms, 1 1/2 bath. Nice big yard, seemingly nice area in a cul de sac, driveway & garage (doubt the car will fit), sweet bathrooms, bed possibly might not fit in bedroom-measurements on website suggest otherwise. Living room will be laid out oddly. Close to base.

#2 http://tinyurl.com/m3t8an3 story old fashioned (tis what I am) cottage-I think neighbors on both side of building-i.e. terraced. 3 story 3 bedroom, 1 bath. Smaller overall. Bed might tough to get upstairs (box spring might not make it), off street parking spot, most badass kitchen ever!, very nice drive from base (about 30 min). Probably my biggest hangup about this place is the 3 stories. Far from base

There is a 3rd place that I won't detail because while I like it, it doesn't scream to me to rent it like the other two places did. I like the place, it's plenty big for every single thing I own with no problem moving in/out. Fairly nice big kitchen, small yard. Has a loft with a nice view, but doubt I'd spend much time there. Nice as it is, kinda don't want it because it's perfect for someone with a kid or two.

As I mentioned earlier I have 3 more than I plan on looking at, 1 looks nice all around but again a terraced place and it's unclear on offstreet parking. One is just pics of outside(looks nice and sounds plenty big). The other is a house and looks mostly plain on the inside.

At a quick glance property no.2 has more of the wow factor for me. They both look good value, I currently pay £1000 pcm for a 2 bedroom flat (albeit split level and v nice). The South of England is a rip off compared to what you can get elsewhere :x Good luck in your search

Yeah property no2 I really love. I just don't think my stuff would fit very well. It will fit, but I might have to use all three rooms to do it. That kitchen is hooking me big time though.

The lawn will keep you busy on this one :o

So, what exactly does keeping the lawn up for ya'll entail?
Is it just mowing the grass and trimming the edges of the grass?
Also how quick does the grass grow?

Where I grew up in the states had a yard much bigger so this to me is fairly small. Would I have to clean up fallen pine needles?

In case you don't know it already, this website is good for property searching: www.globrix.com

Yeah the 2nd one is awesome. If the place I look at today/tomorow isn't that good I'll go look at place #2 again. I don't think my dresser will make up the stairs at all.

Found another cottage type place (no where's as cool) that looks great and has plenty of room (at least I think it does). It's in a village called Methwold (I think I spelled it right). Have ya'll any opinions about that place?

One other big thing, there is a wall on both sides of the driveway for that place, it reduces visibility. Enough that I think unless a mirror gets put up, the only way I'll get out of the driveway without getting hit will be to back out of the driveway and onto a single carraigeway (uhm B road or C road?). So does anyone know of any tricks to help with that or is it just going to be me putting up a mirror?

On another note, for the 2 places I've been looking at http://www.moneysupermarket.com for a list of internet providers. I've already been warned about the fair use policy. I'm just wondering if ya'll have any recommendations for internet providers that offer at least 8Mbps speed and unlimited download.

Putting it simply I download a lot! I am what you'd say a power user. I'll probably cut down on downloading while I'm here, but still, I'd prefer a ton of unlimited caps.

I can't recommend www.bethere.co.uk enough. But you should be able to find a review here: http://www.ispreview.co.uk/

Im with O2 broadband which offers near as dammit the same service as bethere for a cheaper price...

no complaints here about their service in over a year now.

BT are rolling out faster services all the time...

check out SamKnows... there is a post code checker on there that will give you an Idea of the speed you can expect from each provider. Found it for you: Mapping Engine

I'm blaming ya'll if some of my stuff doesn't fit.

I talked with the landlord for house #2 and reviewed the stairwell. If stuff doesn't make it up the stairwell we can take out a window. So I'm going to grab it provided the base agrees to let me go there.

Keep up the ISP recommendations please

http://www.bethere.co.uk is good if its in your area :) <24mb, Good upload, Basically no fair use policy and excellent support. You can also 'tweak' your settings online if youre a gamer etc :)

Also http://www.virginmedia.com/ are good if you want a Phone/TV/Internet package - however thats cable.

Oooh and if you're getting a Mobile (not Cell!!) Phone, T-Mobile have a Flext price plan that includes international calls in your allowance - may be useful :p

Also when siging up for various utilities and services, you can use www.quidco.com to get cashback :D

I'm still wanting to use my Iphone for a Mobile.
Just checked bethere's site, broadband not availiable in my area.

The other one I'm looking at is plusnet

I hate this, I can't decide.
Here is the bigger place i'm checking out.
It has a garage that I'm doubtful if the car will make it in.
Much bigger place, so my stuff will not doubt fit in it. A couple of baths.

Honestly I do believe the garage would just barely allow the Z4 to slip in. Once it gets past the garage door it's plenty of room.

cant get my zed in my garage - but thats mainly down to the angle my drive is at to the front of the garage :(
