House Hunt UK (sorted)

BTW, the latest place I linked has a much bigger back yard and a deck as well. The really nice place is just going to cramped on the ground level

Well in typical me fashion when I'm confronted between two choices and can't decide between the two I did what I normally do.

I went with option 3, which is to pick something totally different.
This place, doesn't have the old charm of the other cottage. It does meet all my requirements, a garage that looks like it will easily fit my car (with room leftover), plenty of space inside the house for all my furniture, a seperate utility room. Sweet views outside the place too. The main downside with it is it's heated by oil, which can be expensive. It also features (well for me it's a feature) about a 30 minute drive from base through some spectacular scenic roads. According to the guy too it's not too far from Bury St Edmonds or Newmarket.
So this is me...no longer as stressed, unless of course the base says nay for some reason but that's not likely.

Thanks very much for ya'lls help. I'll probably still ask any utility questions here.

Yep, the 3rd was the first one I liked.

I can see about 10 Z4's parked on the drive for your house warming party!

Been closing a couple of large deals here so been away from the Forum.

Advice - get a gardener in the package for the house. It will save you at least a 1/4 of your weekend time.
About 20% of the houses in my village are let to North Americans from Molesworth or Alconbury. The owners want the garden to be as they left it so they nearly all have cleaner and gardener included. We do get the higher ranking staff but it looks like a trend.

Congrats on the new pad Aebous. In terms of broadband I suspect virgin media will be the way forward providing your area is cabled. If you take their telephone package at the same time then it is cheaper for broadband, although you can get it without a phone (which you cant do with ADSL)

I hope the area is cabled.

I have no problem with a Z4 housewarming party.....I definitely have the parking space for it
I heard today from a tech geek that BT is not that bad when it comes to speed and they have true unlimited internet. At any rate, when I get a phone hooked up I'll delve deeper into that.

doesnt look hopeful for anything other than BT ADSL - not even ADSL2 :(

Wickhambrook exchange or at the exchange just up the road

but you should be fairly close to the exchange which should give you a reasonable speed, just not much choice

So where is some good places for furniture shopping?
Yes I mean off base.
I'd like places where I can get quality furniture and also if ya'll have any general type stores for furniture (think like wal-mart or maybe ikea)

Nearest IKEA to would be Thurrock - on the East side of London just North of the M25 bridge over the Thames (bet you feel like a local now!)

Regarding your iPhone, I'd get it jailbroken and throw in aOrange or O2 pay as you go sim.

Actually I had a Vodafone pay as you go sim put in. I'll have to figure out their internet usage. For now I'm just using wifi networks.

Not for me silly.....
Though I am not ashamed of putting something in the passenger seat and going topless

Good shops for furniture are House Of Fraser, John Lewis, Laura Ashley...but i wouldn't have a clue if there are any near you

Yeah I'm trying to help out my buddy because he doesn't really have anything and the bases here don't really have a good selection. I'm sure once I get into my section the 70+ people will know the better places to go.

What's irking me is he's in the frame of mind of just being cheap crap furniture instead of buying something nice that will last and look great. Ah well he'll figure it out in a few years.
