high mileage vs service history

Hi all,

Currently on a feverish hunt for my perfect z4 roadster. I'm after a facelift 2.5 or 3l for unser 8.5k but ideally less. I've been looking at generally relatively low mileage cars but am wondering how you all view the mileage vs servicing question? I know many people that would argue that a well looked after car with high mileage beats a poorly cared for car with low mileage, but im concerned about being able to sell the car on if the majority of potential buyers dont agree with this.

E.g. looking at a 2007 2.5i sport with 65k miles for 8k but full bmwsh and seems to have been well looked after - should I be put off? if I do 10k miles a year this will have done 85k miles by the time it's 8 years old, doesnt seem too bad for a normal car but I've seen a lot of people in the market for cars with under 50k miles regardless of age.

I just don't want to be stuck with a car I can't sell in a couple of years. Or one that breaka down repeatedly!

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

thanks in advance

Mike

That's a smidgen under average miles and you'll be keeping it that way. If you like the car and it's well maintained then go for it. A FBMWSH is a good selling point come the time to move it on.

+1 :)

Service history all the way!

I sold my 2006 3.0si with 118k on the clock to the first person who saw her and the BMW service history plus the bits and pieces I had done which showed how I looked after her. That car is solid!

Condition and good maintenance over mileage any day. Low miles is nice but few "bad" miles are far worse than loads of "good" miles.

A well maintained BMW 3 litre should go for a long time. Hell, my Clio 1.5 diesel is on 205k and going just fine. I've maintained it and they are mostly motorway miles.

Mileage has never been a issue when i buy used cars , Always buy on condition, service record & lowest number of owners 8)
Also check what tyres the current owner has fitted + receipts for work done during their ownership as it tells you many things about the way its been kept
