High mileage preventative maintenance

Hi! I'm coming up to 135,000 and not looking to change this any time soon, so is there anything I should been looking at changing, I want to make sure there isn't anything that's known for failing that I could avoid.

Move to using 5 or 10W40 oil rather than 5 or 10W30.
Gearbox and diff oil change.
Check suspension components.
Brake lines corrode.

I concur with the recommendation above to use the slightly higher viscosity high temp oil. These engines run hot, so 5w40 LL01 or LL04, made my 130i and my 135i noticably quieter when hot at idle.

Change the diff and gearbox oil...and the brake fluid, if it hasn't been replaced in the last few years.

I wonder if replacing the coolant might delay the early demise of the electric water pump/stat.

How much of the history do you know

What has been changed or checked and when

As above change all the fluids engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, gearbox oil, diff oil, then check the suspension and then all ball joints and control points for wear etc, engine mounts for wear and security, security of all the other mounting brackets for example exhaust hangers etc.

Check all engine ancillary equipment for wear, you could just wait for a failure for example starter motor.

Brake system discs for min thickness pads for wear brake lines etc. Back plates for rust

Then it gets a bit deeper with bearings, wheels, prop shaft, check for wear within the diff.

Thanks for these! I've had the car since 2013 bought it at 45000 miles some of the suggestions have been done(water pump, thermostat, diff oil, gearbox oil, new discs) nice to know about the oil though. In regards to the vanos and disa, is it still a problem for the n52 I had read that it had been sorted?

From a Dirty Harry film well punk are you feeling lucky

Prevention is almost always the cheaper option

May as well do the oil filter housing/cooler gaskets and rocker cover gasket (get new bolts) if not done too and vanos solenoids whilst yer down there...oh maybe check CCV system too.

Have you actually plugged in a scanner and had a look if there are any reported codes? Sometimes they are sorted without triggering an EML.
