Hi I am considering buying a high mileage 2.5 I drive it's done 109000 on a 59 plate I will do around 8k per year what problems should I look out for and what should have been done maintenance wise previously, any comments observations greatly appreciated.

Hi, I would check the history to see if the electronic water pumps been changed, if its not been done it probably wont last much longer & its an expensive job through bmw (getting towards a grand) or diy for £300 or so
If the cars been looked after that mileage shouldn't be an issue imho, let us know how you get on

Never owned a BMW before and car brands that use carry over engines seem to have common problems. So the water pump is one of those problems ? My car is at 65k, on reaching 100k I would probably replace the vanos solenoids as they seemed to be a problem on other BMWs. Not expensive and easy to get at. And new set of ignition coils.
But any other known areas, wheel bearings, ball joints?

I had a 2009 high mile E89 2.5 Jamesy , ran like a swiss watch when i sold it on 127k  guess its all about just how those miles were clocked up ? That should be evident from the current condition & its service record which if both make you smile then go for it & tackle any jobs that come up as they happen

Hi, what car have you got flybobbie? its the n52 engine on facelifts & e89's that's expensive-earlier cars used a mechanical pump that's far cheaper.

THat's less than half and possibly a third of what a well looked after bimmer can achieve.
Managed this on a e36 2.5L engine before it was 'murdered' (crashed into and written off). Was still going as well as the day i bought it!
N52 engine issues as others have indicated here but maybe wise to do an alternator strength check too.
Fsh indicating regular oil changes with good/same oil type backed up with receipts if taken to a garage.

161192, not mega miles Chris :poke:

I have a 2006 X3 with a 122000 miles on it , and it's all about condition and service history.

A mechanical, part is cheap to replace compared to paint work. If it is in good condition, runs well and is a good price , go for it !

I'd bet that photo (1) is upside down and (2) contains the correct orientation within the file. Some applications are smart enough to read that info and show the photo rotated (which is probably what Chris saw), but not all.

A possibly more embarrasing version:
