HID Kit Upgrade

Okay got them back, are the H7 adapters mean't to be so loose when fitted to the led ?

I believe they would be completely loose until install in the light housing where they hold everything in place.

edit: spelling

Omg i feel like i was made to answer this thread haha.

I have had all sorts of hid replacements and adapters in mine, and I am currently running;

White 5000k LED Side lights
6000k 55w slim ballast HID from hids4u
(who i have used for years and have always had perfect results from)
6000k LED Full Beam from amazon but the adapters don't fit over the fan.
6000l LED Fogs, adaptor not needed they fit great.
They look really bright but they have very little reach in real life application.

Legally, your only issue is that HIDs must be housed in a projector.

MOT wise, they will fail if they don't self level, and have washers.

Depending on who does your MOT you can say you removed them when it was in and replaced them as soon as it passed "ehem"...

Here is the difference one side from the OEM.

Did the cover fit back onto the housing after installing the LEDs mentioned above? Considering them over a HID install.
Cheers.

Yes i did, no problems with fitting
Thanks for the advice tuco, I will get the bits ordered.

Whilst I did a HID install and not the led.. You may have the same issue I did.

When I refitted the covers and sruff it turns out my rubber seal had not at all seated correctly again because it probably hadn't been taken off for many years and was 15 years old.
I ended up with my lights being very wet!

Replaced that back cover and dried them out and now have no issues. But the rubber was definitely dead.

Worth considering having new ones!

Sound advice. Thanks for pointing that out.
I actually have a small amount of condensation in one lamp housing anyway so new seals may be in order. If they are available for a reasonable price I will pick some up.

I can't remember exactly but I got them from bmw and it was £15 a side I think. Its the whole back cover thing. Not just the rubber seal!

In my previous car I tried all sorts of HID kits, from £20 eBay specials to HIDs4U premium ones. All of them ended up looking aftermarket-y, some just looked chavtastic (even though they were supposed to be 5000K). So I recommend an LED kit.

I have one right now and I'm very pleased with it, mainly because it looks OEM and has greatly modernised the looks of the car with the lights on -- it's nice and white.

Some photos (looks a bit blue-ish, but it is true white in real life, which I failed to capture with my camera):

Have PM'd you Lucas. Let me know if this comes through, my account doesn't always work.

Has anyone converted their full/high beam to LED to match the light colour?

Abdy recomendations would be useful on what you have used..

Thanks

It’s worth noting that the MOT rules have changed as of Jan 21, head lamps designed for halogen bulbs can not have HID or LED bulbs fitted and will be failed

 BMW Z4 headlamps have D2S AND H7 stamped on the lens so wouldn't fall foul of the HID element of that rule if the MOT tester can't identify anything else amiss
