Hi all, first BMW car.

Hi to all.
My first foray into BMW car ownership, though I do have an S1000R sport which I bought in October.

Just purchased a 2020 s drive 30i which is being delivered on Tuesday, all going well.
Appears to be very well specced, not much in the options list not on it I don’t think.

I’ll post some pics up when it arrives.

Coming from a 718 Boxster which due to a nervous fiancée and having the bike, was rarely used in anger.
Persuaded SWMBO that the Z4 is more refined and we can just cruise along.
If I suddenly stop posting, she sussed me out.

First question and it’s general and google can’t help.
As the car is nine months old, but VED can’t be transferred, what happens re the higher tax rate for the first five years? Do I lose the nine months “credit” towards it so far, or at some point in the future will I pay pro rats for a year?
I’m thinking maybe best just to tax for six months originally if no credit from the first nine months.

Thanks for reading and any responses.

Welcome. Look forward to the pictures!

What packs does it have on it?

As for the VED, I don’t know how the first year refund works, but if any refund is given, it’s to the original owner I believe.

Hi ori.
Off the top of my head, sport pro, comfort plus, tech, sure there is more.
Yes, I’m aware any refund goes to the previous owner, what I’m trying to understand is if that partial year counts towards the amount of time the higher ved is paid, or as because it was not a full year, I’m starting from scratch again.

Hello and welcome from another recent G29 owner

I’ve already got my registration documents and I’m sure it says the higher VED is applicable for the first 5 years from date of registration so the previous 9 months will count IMO

Just checked, it shows the date the higher VED is due until

Cheers Andy, I presume they will pro rata it the last year of the higher rate.

I bike up your way often, pretty sure you will recognise this.

I thought the higher VED was only for 5 years but it appears that your documents show it for 6.
Can you sorn it over winter without it affecting the end date for the high VED?

Cool, will keep an eye out for you and your car.
Keep an eye on the meets threads if that is your thing also.

Yes, I think it’s the big one, £900, for year one then the additional surcharge for the following 5.

I presume you can because my reading of the V5 is that after that date, no matter how much it’s been taxed/sorn’d, the additional surcharge is only in place until the stated date.

Taken about 100 yards to your left

As Nictrix says keep an eye on the meets posts and if you’re heading up this way let us know and we might manage a mini one :driving:

Yep lol, very close indeed. I have pics of my last 4 bikes at that gate.

Fiancée and I are hoping to do Skye in a few weeks overnight, but will be a school night. She is a terrible passenger, part of the reason I sold the 718 Boxster as I couldn't drive it spiritedly with her in it and if I'm out on my own it's the bike.

We’re just back from Inverness and it was a great run in the new car. Came back via Glen Coe.

I’m sure you’ll have a fantastic time and the speed is a bit more deceptive in the G29 so you might get a bit more fun before the speed limiter kicks in

Lol, she is actually fine with speed, it's corners she hates.

Did Paisley/Tyndrum/Glencoe/Oban/Inveraray and home on Monday on the S1000R, my normal run, superb.

You not had your car long then?

Tell her to shut her eyes on the corners

Canny believe you missed out Inveraray/Lochgilphead/Oban out of that run, especially on a bike

Picked it up last Saturday, was also in Glen Coe on Monday. Came the long way back from Inverness
