Hens teeth MR2

What ho Zedders…

I have a very unhealthy like for MK2 MR2’s, had about 10 of them, I have one waiting for a full restoration, but then this one turned up a month or so ago, it’s the level of MR2 I’ve been looking for for roughly 15yrs. Rev 5 red T bar, UK car with air con, 55k miles, last owner has had it since 6 months old, always garaged, it’s absolutely mint, pretty much flawless, the underneath is rough as it’s all original, shocks, springs etc, but that’s no issue. The usual rust issues with these cars are the sills, door bottoms, rear arches and suspension turrets, non of that here. By standards days they’re pretty slow and noisy, but 7.2 to 60 is fine, and the fact you can rev them out hard without doing silly speeds is a nice change. They’re pretty pointy on the front end which I like, very sharp turn in. I’m absolutely made up with it, I’ll concours it underneath and never sell it, everything else would go first before this, it’s a rare car indeed in this condition with the air con too. I guess it’s just one of those things, if something floats your boat then there’s not much you can do..! 😆

That is one fine looking example, IMHO the best looking of the three generations of MR2s. I had the third gen MR2 red with hardtop and sequential gearbox but never really bonded with the car.

Also owned a 4th and 5th gen Celica which were great cars and also a 3rd gen Supra Turbo. Toyota used to build some great sports cars but then for a while they went completely boring nice to see they are back now with some nice sporting models.

My wife's, dad's business partner had one when they were new, in red like yours with the removable roof. Loved it, wanted it, couldn't have it, too much money.

Thanks muchly chaps....

No fake 355 kit going on this no.... Im afraid it's going to be a garage queen, although having said that, Beedub is going to PPF it so I will be using it a fair amount in summer.....if it doesn't rain of course....those T bars are a bit of a faff....

We're sooooooo spoiled with wet rotten roof motors these days....

Oh that’s just lovely, what a great find and like many have said previously, I’d love one of these.

It looks like you have found a real gem John.

I've always thought the MK2 MR2s looked fantastic but have never owned one. The earlier and later models don't do anything for me!

That looks mint.
My wife had a 1990 black mk2 T-bar G-Ltd when I met her.
Cracking little car and it was only sold when the sills started to go and replacements were not available.

LOVELY....

the other marques section of the forum is pretty much the place to be right now! lol.

Had a black turbo jap import for a couple of years, loved it but starting a family took care of that. One of my favourite cars :driving:

Sold it to a guy in Leeds, G459 SGT was the plate but when you do a history check it says red, always wondered what happened to it maybe 355 kit  Not taxed since 2002 so guessing it's tin cans by now

Yep I'm afraid the turbo cars especially were susceptible to the backward cap wearing brigade that loved to stick plastic scoops, flares, kits of all kinds on them, boost and everything they could wire up gauges thrown all over the dash, then couldn't afford to look after them, and so as you say they ended up in skips or put on the bay with lashings of fresh rattle can paint covering the rust for ridiculously optimistic prices....such a shame really.

I have owned four MR2 SW20s, brilliant cars. Great 2.0 litre engine which partly due to the shape of the car was quite economical. I was slightly tempted by the mark version 3, not as good perhaps but prices will go up due to their rarity.

That thought makes me sad  , only visible upgrade I made was changing the alloys from the original 14" to the OEM 15", other that that the CAT was removed as it wasn't a legal requirement in the UK for a 1990 car.
