Help: splitting alloys, threaded a bolt head

I decided to split my two spare 108 ready for a referb. But I threaded the head of one bolt, so cant get it out!

Anyone had this happen to them before? How did you resolve it?

If you mean by 'threaded' you mean stripped the splines out the inside of one bolt then there are 2 easy ways:

Using a sharp drill of slightly more then the bolt thread drill the bolt top out and then the star will lift out. Remove the remaining stud with mole wrench to undo or a stud extraction tool

Alternative is an easy out extractor which has a left hand thread to screw into the bolt head.

Question needs asking why it stripped. Careless or somehow bonded in??

I split my spare 108's today - looked like someone had tried before as on the first wheel the head of one of the bbs bolts had already gone. I used a pillar drill and gradually increased size of the bit until I had drilled through enough for the star to separate - I will have to still attempt to remove the remaining stud - that can be tomorrows job!

Two wheels split fine and the other again had heads that had been previously butchered with damaged splines - unfortunately 5 on that one - saving that alloy for a while!!

Quite frustrating that someone had tried before as has created a lot more work but needs must.

I would like to believe it was bonded in, as i got 39/40 out (did two alloys) with no trouble. I didn't even put that much effort in and heard the head jump splines!
