Help... someone did a hit and run on my car :(

man that hurts to even look at that.

given the amount of space you left, I'm amazed somebody can still get it so wrong :o

So follow PVR's view.... So I'll mention it come renewal time to cover my own back.

I don't think that was strictly his view to be honest.

Are you really tempted to fix this at your own expense and to take the hit come renewal time?

DO NOT tell your insurance company. Nothing to do with them, and no impact on your risk. We've been hit by idiots, too, and sorted it ourselves. Keep it in-house... won't have any impact on you.I pranged a rental van some years ago (stupidly hit something static (not a vehicle!) in my blind spot when reversing)...do you think I told my insurance? No. Did I pay for repairs, yes. Through my hire rental. Mrs 2alps had the same with a rented Laguna she *just* clipped on a post and got charged £50 to repair.

Defo don't get insurers involved whatever you do. It is only a cosmetic scratch which does not affect anything else (it is not as if after this you would be driving a dangerous dodgy car with a bent chassis or something!) Honestly it is not worth it - been there, waisted hours of my time re-explaining stuff, watched my premium go up (stayed up for last three years) all because someone drove into me and scratched some paintwork and i was stupid enough to assume the insurers would try to help sort out an incident which was not my fault. On top of it all as they abandoned the claim as could not prove who was driving I had to pay for the repairs myself in the end!

Am really peeved for you - nothing worse than idiots who run off in a cowardly way!

I used a place called new again in chelmsford to get the car sorted out. I found them v good and quite reasonable (they try what they can through sratch removal and have a bodyshop they work with down the road).

Good luck

x2

I bet it was a woman in a 4x4. I've seen them bang other cars in supermarket carparks and have no idea that they've hit anything. :x

A bit of an update on this...... (no insurance notified as yet!)

Got a few quotes for repair.... and BMW were very competitive! at £892.

So jumped the gun a little and just bought some aero skirts..... As i need to get one skirt reprayed might aswell upgrade them - will try and see if i can get both sprayed but not fitted for the same cost.... however I have a question....

The BMW bodyshop have said they will

"remove and refit" NSF door fitting and NS sill cover

Does this mean they will remove my door, take out/ fill the dent and spray it only, without blending it into the front wing and rear wing? Is that likely to give a paint match?

A good bodyshop shouldn't need to blend - they should get the paint colour right in the first place. That's what I was told.

ahh that makes sense.. and i guess its not a colour prone to colour fade like red.... i personally would prefer only having one panel painted and not getting more then needs to be done touched....

Another question... why do some garages say they can fix it without removing the door, yet others need to remove it?! Again i would prefer not to have my door taken off as i would then need to make sure it all lines up correctly again!

Oi! :poke: I have a red car!

To be honest, any colour should be fine to colour match... They just need to do proper readings, and get the paint mix right. Which BMW paintshop are you taking it to? Make sure they have a good reputation, as many don't.

I'd be surprised if any of them say they don't need to take the door off to be honest. Isolation of one panel is a lot easier to spray than it is with it on the car. Personally I would want my door taking off, because whilst you may experience issues with it lining up again (which is very unlikely to be honest), you'll definitely avoid any chance of overspray onto the other panels.

Just realised what car you have..... and i think you mean pink car :poke: But joking aside.. saw your car at the london meet earlier in the year and def one of the nicest M's here

The dealer is BMW Derby. but found out they outsource they bodywork to Chartwell here in Derby.. near Pride park... so my next stop is to go direct to them for a "cash" price.

Only been able to find a few reviews for them... and all of them seemed positive... which I dont mind paying a bit of a premium for.

One garage quoted me £320.... to fill it and spray the door and surrounding panels... but then if its sounds too good to be true...

Oh it's definitely pink... and red... and orange... Imola Red is a bit weird in most lights.

If you want to stick with a BMW bodyshop, and don't mind travelling, Cotswold have an award-winning bodyshop which I took my Z4 to. They got the colour match spot-on. Wasn't a perfect job, but as close as it's going to get! As it's quite a new car, I'd want to take it to a BMW bodyshop just in case you had ANY problems with your paint or corrosion in future years. It's the only reason I went with a BMW bodyshop, but didn't trust the Swindon bodyshop at all. Cotswold will also pick your car up in a covered lorry if you don't want to travel (though that may only be free within a certain radius).

Definitely find out a price from them directly as a new case (as it's likely BMW won't have given your registration, so you may get it cheaper).

OK a little update... Car is now booked in for the end of Nov (as i will be away with work till then) to get this repaired, skirts painted and fitted, door dings on front wing removed and a scratch on the lower front where it scraped a driveway... total cost £1100 outside of my insurance.

And Mr BMW delivery dropped these HUGE boxes off yesterday - got a little worried as i thought they were stock ones at first - had to put them by my car to see the difference  :

Sorry to see the damage caused by some idiot, nowadays people don't seem to care, I once was hit whilst sat in my car at a service area, the lady just got out of her car as if nothing had happened, when I collered her about it she said she hadn't noticed :x hope you get your Z back to normal soon.

Well i thought i should update this post!

Finally got time this week to get my car to the bodyshop... Door and aero skirts painted and fitted... they did a fantastic job, even down the orange peel that all the other panels had!

Also did some PDR on a door ding on the other side.

So now its as good as new... ready to hibernate for winter!

Not a very good picture.. but needed to wax and cover it before it got dark:

Sadly on black they don't look as good as on sterling grey

Also despite protruding very little they take some used to when getting in and out of the car, I have caught it a few times already.

Better not wear my high heels then

But on a more serious note.. I can be careful getting in and out, however some of my female friends certainly can't... I fear my passenger side one won't last long :x

Hmm, might be worth dating men then to keep the car scratch free :)
