Thanks Paul

Very helpful and makes sense to me  I am going to avoid using the wet and dry if i can. It just dose not seem right!!

I know exactly what you mean and it really goes against the grain. Fortunately on the course I did, we used the instructors car. Using his paint gauge, we took off at most 5 microns wet sanding. From memory, the clearcoat was 60 microns thick at the start. He had used the same car for 4 or 5 wet sanding courses before the one I was on. Just keep away from edges as the paint / clearcoat is thinner there.

It's so true even though my paint is not great. I don't really want to go wild with the wet and dry!! Maybe I will drop your gear knob off. I can get some lessons??

Would like to but I never got round to buying the paint gauge, rotary, pads and all the polishes. I think I worked it out at the time it was going to be £500+ for all that lot.

Yeah fair one that's a few smart repairs I suppose. I have no idea what a paint gauge is google ahoy. I got a machine polisher for Christmas I am a bit scared o use it.

Have a look on DetailingWorld. There are a few of the pro detailers on there who run classes. Its cheaper to pay for that than stuff up the paintwork because you do it wrong.

Thanks again Paul i will take a look. Them paint gauges are more sophisticated than I was thinking. I my mind they where like feeler gauges not digital. No ideas as to how a feeler gauge paint measuring device might work :?

Anyone fancy a mini meet tomorrow??? I don't have a rout planed just go for a :driving:

I could be up for an hour or so. Do you want to make a new thread mate so more people see it?

Right just clay bared the rough rear wing. And it's amazing the panel is all perfect smooth shiny. That stuff is amazing cant wait to do the rest of the car :D

Great isn't it! I've got quite a few nice detailing products so when the weather gets better you'll have to pop over and try some :)

Thanks mate probably have to take you up on that. I am amazed I have never used clay bar and it really has blown my mind.

The paint on the bonnet and bumper on my Zed was rough after a rubbish blow over the cover up stone chips. I had a local bodyshop prep it all properly and reprint, including blending into the wings and it looks like new now. Really amazing. Only cost me £400.

If the scratch has been touched up with a touch up kit, you might be albe to we and dry it back very gently and polish to get a more uniform finish and make it much less noticeable.
