Anybody ever own a 330D MSport? Or any 2005-2010 diesel 3 litre.
And did the diesel part ruin the experience? Only ever owned petrol cars.

Inkey$ I had an Alipna D3BT for 120,000 miles, it never missed a beat and would pull a house down, worth a look

I had a ride in Ade's and it was bloody awesome. A good choice

E92 330d touring here , not using until we sell the golf so other than the drive home can't comment , other than it pulled like a performance car yet showed me 44mpg . will have it remapped so should be around 260/270 BHP :) that'l do me for a prestige family hack doing 40mpg
why not take one out ?

Thanks guys. Taking some out is the next step, possibly tomorrow en route to Dunsfold. Both 330d MSport saloon and Alpina's (B3 and D3) both on my hitlist.

Looked at RS4s and other such speed freaks but I sort of want a reason to head back to the Zed in a year or twos time. Used to own an E46 330i MSport petrol and it was lovely but these new E9x seem even better. Also looking at 525 and 530's.

Why 330d not 335d? Are the 40 extra bhp in the latter from remapping the same engine as in the former or are the turbos bigger?
With the price of diesel as it is you may find that the cost saving from buying and running a 330d or 335d vs a 335i is not that great...

Another  here, we owned a 2006 330d M sport for six years got it 3 months old & put 154k miles on it, it was a superb allrounder & never put a foot wrong, we didn't have any previous experience with diesel before it but I was very surprised with how capable it was & it is still missed alot...in many ways I think it's all the car you could ever need. :)

It's a good point and I am looking at 335i's too but in 4 door (not many around). Originally this plan of mine featured a remapped 335i as Car no1 but there are some good deals on 330s. Think I need to try them all. And 5 series although not sure garage is large enough!

Lee - that's good to know. Seen a few low milers so if possible, get something to keep, get the gf used to driving it, sell the Y reg Golf (that she loves!) and get myself another M.

That's sort of a plan right?!

I know my 3.0l diesel is by a different manufacturer, but I'm mighty impressed with it, especially the noise because it doesn't clatter, performance wise it's damn impressive, not quite 3.0 zed performance but not far off.

The only downside to a big diesel is short journey fuel economy on a cold engine, if you do less than 5 miles expect low 20 mpg. It pays on longer journey though.

Inkey$...I think you will be impressed with the 330d we only got rid as the miles were getting higher but it still drove like it had only covered 10k miles! It was such a capable machine & the mrs absolutely loved it & because it was auto it suited the torque & it's overtaking ability was great.

In the six years we had ours nothing went wrong it was just routine servicing, only tyre costs were the only gripe 18's on runflats were pricey.

If it enables you to get another M in the future then everyone is a winner, I agree

Good luck with finding your new car Inkey$... I know you said you were in two minds about giving her up but never realised how close it came!! I will take good care of her...

You ever considered a classic 8 series? Or not modern enough? It's a shape I have always admired since I was a kid... Plus V12 and... POP-UP-HEADLIGHTS!!!

We had an E46 330d on a 53 in imola, it was awesome only slight diesely noise on tic over but when you got going sounded great! Pulled like a train was like an M3 that did 45-50mpg! Sits at 1500rpm at 70. Only thing I didn't like was the ride was hard in the back but compared to the Z its quite comfy lol and the down turned exhausts.

They were quite front heavy with the iron block tho. Remember my mum having a few issues round a few bends

We did have some trouble withe the injectors. Then sold it for an E46 M3.

All in all brilliant cars. Would rather have the newer e90 tho more refined in most ways, I had an E90 before buying the Z and the interior and standard kit was much better than the e46 and the Z, obviously because it's the newer gen.

 funnily enough this was on my 'classic' list but is literally too big for my garage! Got to love those pop up headlight!!

...also decided that as much as the 335 is a good car, I should never have sold the MC. One of my more stupid decisions.

is there no way back into one ? :( the 335 should sell easily enough :| isn't Woody planning to sell his shortly ? that's a stunner :driving:

There will be Mr W.

To be fair I need to keep and live with the 335 for a while at least. Don't think I've done 10 miles in it yet which worries me as it was supposed to be more usable and we're still using the Golf for most things as it's not in the garage - easy to jump into and throw around and the gf drives it too (refuses to drive anything else). My worry is it defeats the whole objective of selling the MC and getting a 4 door :headbang:

Maybe I'll reassess things again next winter and I've used the 335 more. Got a Cornish holiday coming up in May and it's Easter weekend soon so hopefully my decision will be at least slightly justified.

nice car, didn't realise thee rep mobiles were so bloody quick! best not have a traffic light grand prix with one
with regards to the front bumper, i did the same (on a metal cabinet) in exactly the same area and it cost £70 for a smart repair. couldn't see the repair at all as it was flat white.

Why don't you "Disappear" the Golf and then you're forced to use the BMW :D
