Was it lifting off when you were removing the tape? If so next time try removing the tape straight after you have applied the last coat.

I think it looks good for a first effort Marlon.
Ties in nicely with the wheels and the screen trim beneath the top of the bonnet.
Yep gloss finish would suit but was it an easy way to find out if the colour works?
Main thing is it's not a 'fait accompli' and you have a chance to change your mind or refine it.

Your car looks orange in the pics!! As others have said it would be better in gloss black mate. Just get it wrapped, quick and easy job

Hi Marlon. I think black is definitely the way to go but DO NOT use the Plastidip Glossifier. It is very soft and marks easily. I've used it on my grilles and gone back to the standard flat black Plastidip. Also, I thought your hardtop was Sapphire Black which is metallic. If it was me I would get the pillars sprayed professionally in Sapphire to match the top or in satin black to match the wing- mirror plinths. If you finish the pillars in gloss black you will have 3 different 'types' of black all right next to each other which may look a bit pants. :(

Black pillars, Don't dip them, it'll look odd matte. You could wrap them. But beware that gloss wrap (unlike matte wrap) picks up scuffs really easy when applying and afterwards. I've used it. Scuffs don't polish out. It would be cheap to test wrap them and if it doesn't work peel it off. If it was something you were considering as a permanent change a paint job would be best.

I like it better than the red pillars and see where folk are coming for in saying the gloss would be even better with the gloss hard top but I think you have got it right with the fabric roof

Pics tomorrow will tell but the beauty is this is all free play :D

Black all day long. Defo worth trying Plastidip along with some of their glossifier if you want it to better match your roof.

Thanks for the feedback - the plasti-dip was lifting as I removed the masking tape straight after the final coat :(
Had to use a matt paint to touch up the edges.
I have removed the hardtop and the matt back matched the fabric roof better and also look pretty darn good with the roof down. I will post some pics over the weekend.
Cheers fellas,
Marlon.

Bit of a dilemma there Marlon, looks good in Matt with no roof  but with the hardtop it looks odd and needs to be gloss.
Have to try gloss pillars for the winter when the roof goes back on and the dip has worn off :poke:

Now you've got the hardtop off I think the pillars need to be satin black the same as the wing mirror plinths. It would look more OEM/factory.

I'll say it again - you need to invent some pillar clip-on covers in different colours for each configuration, Marlon :D

:scratchhead:

Top down all today and very pleased, whatever I decide they aren't going back to red :)

I like the look in matt black with the roof down looks great and probably with the softop up too, just not against the gloss hardtop but guessing it wont be going back on for a good few months

Actually the matte black was even better than the gloss black. But then you will have a hardtop issue. I see only one solution to that: paint the hardtop red :)
