I stored my summer wheels and tyres in the garage over the last several months while I was using my winter wheels. I went to swap them over a few weeks ago and one of the tyres was severly damaged.

Now it was only one tyre and only in the one patch shown in the photo. The tyres were brand new last summer and had 2000 miles on them, maximum. Current guesses include mice eating them, the tyre being in contact with the wall and getting frost damage, wind moving the trye and friction causing it, or there being some oil on the tyre before it was put in storage.
I know the tyre is a right off but if anyone could identify how the damage was done I would be very grateful to learn how to avoid it in the future!
Many thanks!
