Help for a hero / treated unfairly by complete A55holes

Interesting. On one side of the discussion the civilian point of view: Hero. Put his life on the line for his country. Wouldn't want to trust his life to his colleagues.

On the other side military points of view. Not claiming to be heros. Have put their lives on the line for their country. Would not want to depend on someone, in peace or war, who blatantly disregarded the rules that bind their Lives together and could potentiaLly put their lives at risk.

If military/ex military have a harder point of view consider this. Ignore the gun. Someone was sharing a living space with a large amount of potentially dangerous ammunition.

Some sense at last & am sure a mighty relief he wasn't tried by ex military personnel who appear to want him lynched or shot at dawn !
can just imagine heading into a war with those fellows to back me up :| think id rather be alone

The services is a club, it has rules, if you break them to the extent where it could endanger the safety and lives of your fellow club members thats when you ask yourself who you want "backing you up".
As I said it's a club and if you haven't joined then you won't understand its rules and more importantly the mess rules.

My comment of "Cheap shot" was aimed at your "heading into war with those fellows backing you up" and it's because you don't understand the rules that I and I am sure other service / ex service would feel similar.
However I should take into consideration that for anyone who has not lived in that enviroment it would be difficult if not impossible to fully understand it, I am not meaning that in any demeaning way, so if I have offended then sorry.
First pint is on me if we ever meet.

I think this was a very clear cut case of a man being in illegal possession of a firearm. Had he been given drugs as a present, would that have been okay?

A gun is dangerous and that fact he "forgot" about it, means someone could have taken it and used it, such as his house mate who is obviously into something criminal as he prompted a search.

I don't like to see good people go to prison, but would he be a good person if his glock had been used in a shooting?

As said above, the punishment seems harsh, that's because regularly in the UK we hand out sentences that are not a deterrent and do not encourage reformation.

Finally, his service shouldn't count towards a more lenient sentence because of the "good" he has done, but should demonstrate that this wasn't a crime of negligence but was intentional

Reading this thread has brought back some memorys of Military discipline and punishment that I experienced.
Thought I would share one for both your amusment and to give a bit of an insight to Military discipline mindset.

I was out with bunch of guys on the lash in Germany, I was on duty at 6am the following morning and therefore could not be too late back or too drunk, so it got to heading home time for me whilst the rest of the lads were heading for clubs and women, I had managed to get very drunk so decided to walk back rather than take a cab, it was about a 5 mile walk. about 2 miles out of town I was set upon by 2 guys, beaten and mugged and left in the ditch at the side of the road in a snotty bloody heap, I came to 2 hours later and couldn't move for pain I eventually manged to get back onto the road and stumbled the rest of the way back, not one car stopped, not one. When I got back it was 6:30am, I was immediatly taken to the docs, patched up cleaned up and put to bed, 24 hours later I was declared fit duty. 10 minutes after that I was stood in front of the regulators and charged with being AWOL for 30 minutes and not being in possesion of my I.D card, it was in my wallet that had been nicked.

Now there is one thing you have to look at here, Was I guilty of both of these charges.
Yes.
£150 fine for loss of I.D card and 28 days punishment for being AWOL.

Welcome to the military and thank you for signing on the dotted line. YOUR ASS IS NOW OURS...
