It's all I think about
Not thinking, just doing:
Replace both salmon relays next to the hydraulic pump asap with new ones! It will safe you another 3.000€. Bild1.gif

Maybe you will get it from the BMW dealer in Rouen until 5 pm this afternoon!

Great news

Enjoy a glass or three of the local hooch, a good nights sleep and enjoy the rest of your holiday.

Sounds like you need a holiday 8)

Too good to be true mate. Just went to pack the car up. Tried to start it and nothing. Now I get the dash message ( see pic ). I'm wondering if after the reset it now wants me to push the ((P)) button before it will start due to the reset. But I'm not gonna do that now that the brakes are off. At least now I can move the car where it can be towed to the BMW garage. Sorry to be a pain in the neck but any suggestions anyone? :headbang:

I'd recommend a contact to the BMW workshop in Reims or the UK BMW service as mentioned before.
They are able to read possible fault codes and make a proposal what to do next.
Still recommended.

What I've read in the German ZRoadster forum is, that a software update can solve the typical EMF/EPB software problem:
https://www-zroadster-com.translate.goog/forum/threads/z4-e89-ausfall-elektronische-handbremse.138115/?_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=de&_x_tr_pto=wapp

Costs may be towards 200€ and it will take about 2h in the workshop. Nothing else has to be updated or replaced.
A new modul will cost towards 700€, maybe with additional service fees.

What I din't find up to now is, that the motor will not start if the parking brake symbol is shown on the dash.

Thanks RobbiZ4 it's good advice but I know when I'm beaten. I think getting it to the BMW garage in Rouen is the way to go. If they have to talk to the BMW guys in Reims I'd much prefer they talk to each other rather than me get in the way. After all, they made the bloody thing. They can sort it out.
So disappointing, was looking forward to uploading a pic of me and the Zed about to hit the road.

Good pragmatic move..pls check battery condition when you get the EFB firmware done..many batteries look superficially good but are u/s..any AGM battery over 5 years old can be suspect…plus any that have been run flat..which is difficult to determine..

Thanks B21, I bought this yesterday so hopefully it should be up to standard. They can hopefully register this at the same time. One thing off the list...

I missed in the n teen pages that point…for sure it removes one of the biggest cause of mysterious issues..hope it gets sorted…seems like a black hole for Z4s (France)…two 35i I know got stranded there..one with a catastrophic failure of a steering link..then shortly after same chap with a second 35i which had major turbo failure..he now has a F Type..

Thanks B21 I'm sure it'll get sorted one way or another, I wish I'd bought my rattly but reliable 1970 MGB GT. She is officially now my favourite.
As always, update to follow, although I totally understand if everyone wants to step away from this marathon of a thread. Me in particular!! :headbang:
I'll give a detailed costing at the end of this saga. If I dare add it all up.

I suppose you could try disconnecting the battery again to see if it fires up.

But don't close the trunk lid in that situation! Place a carpet, pullover or similiar between the car and the lid to not get it locked.

Nictrix exactly my reasoning. Did it a few hours earlier to see if the same result happened that sparked her into life when she fired up earlier today. But to no avail. The difference this time is that the ((P)) warning light immediately comes on the dash whereas before there was nothing. So something has changed. It is very tempting to push the ((P)) brake button to see if that enables the car to start. But as it could result in the brakes locking up again and not ever coming off I'm not gonna tempt fate mate
