HELP!! E89 Park Sensor - Help I'm stuck in France!!

RobbieZ4 - The locksmith had already been called. He just unlocked the front door. So I hooked up the jump pack to the front end terminals and was able to open the boot. I am now on my way to collect a new battery to see if this deactivates the Park Brake.
Hopefully this might work. Update in the next couple of hours!

BMW Road side assistance is:
020 8686 2444 if calling from within Continental Europe.
https://www.bmw.co.uk/en/topics/owners/service-workshop/bmw-roadside-assistance.html

It reads as if this is for vehicles with a warranty though, not sure if this is the number you meant Robbi

Steve could give it a try...

Why do you think that your battery is dead? A cheap multimeter could support you.

RobbieZ4. Yep totally agree a multimeter would have been the better option but I am basically in panic mode so went ahead and ordered one last night. :headbang:

If you have stop-start, I think the battery will have to be coded to the car in which case you will need a scanner. Perhaps a French club member nearby will have one.

No, that is not required.
Just a registering of the new battery is required, if the new battery is of the same size and type (AGM, 70 Ah).

However, this only removes some collected statistics. Absolutely not that urgent and not necessary to get the car running. Can be pushed back as a later task.

No probs raymond and good to know I will sort as soon as I'm back in the UK thanks. Now if only this bloody taxi would arrive I can get the battery and find out if the sensor is kaput

You are getting there. Remember to connect the positive cable first on the new battery!

RobbieZ4- I was referring to the ((P)) brake. I'm not familiar with the electronic side sorry. This was the original problem. It would not release the brakes. But also the car would not start. Could a low battery stop the brakes from releasing and also stop the car from starting? What also made me think the battery is the issue was the fact that the car was locked but the red led above the rearview mirror wasn't on anymore. It is always flashing on and off when the car is locked

Just a quick addition:
IF a loose battery terminal is the issue and it doesn't spring to life when a new battery is connected (properly), check all the main fuses. If either terminal was loose, the inevitable arcing between the battery and cable can easily blow any of the main fuses (or others TBH).

I hope this gets sorted for you OP. Great support from the forum, as usual. Big  to Robbi, offering to get from Germany to you aswell.

**UPDATE**
I have replaced the battery. But I am back to sqaure 1. Yes the battery kicked the usual stuff into life but 1) The (P) brake is still on and will not release.
2) The car will not start.
So guys, theres been a lot of info going around and checking of fuses suggested but this is out of my league now.
So RobbieZ4 is the offer still open for you to sort or should I contact BMW in Rouen and see what they say? I am literally at a loss as what to do.

As mentioned a page or two back, a low battery can trigger that issue with the parking brake, which will then need a software update.
Marvellous design!

Well, this bug has been known since 2010 and every Z4 should have had an update if it had been serviced in the last 10 years.

I'd recommend a contact to the BMW workshop in Rouen or the UK BMW service as mentioned before.
They are able to read possible fault codes and make a proposal what to do next.

Steve,
Could you please check if there are any traces of water under the removed panels on the right side of the trunk? There are 3-4 control devices placed there, which can be in or under water.

PDC - Park Distance Control
CTM - Cabrio Top Module
EMF/EPB - Electronic Parking Brake module
