HELP!! E89 Park Sensor - Help I'm stuck in France!!

Without an initial trouble code check, there is a risk that I won't be able to fix every problem with your car.

Hi Robbie, all the interior panels of the boot have been removed as I replaced the suspension not so long ago and haven't had to opportunity to put back in the correct order. So gave it the once over and all is water free. I'm trying to contact BMW in Rouen, and might even pop down there later. But it's lunchtime here so everything stops for an hour and a half.

Robbie, I'm one message behind you just saw the new posting about the offer to drive to Rouen. Do you think I should try and get in contact with BMW Rouen first to see what they say? It's an awful long way for you to drive, but if it's an option I'm certainly thinking of it as a solution.

Yes.
And then come back with their ideas and what they want to charge for a repair.

So this is what happened. Pissed off at the new battery install not working, I decided disconnect the battery terminals from the new battery, as it occured to me my friend at the hotel said the brake sensor needs at least 10 minutes to reset, and as the the old battery was connected, I did a quick swap. I guess there was still power going into the system. So left it for 30 minutes, literally just connected it and hey presto, car starts, brakes off (although the red (P) light is still on). I'm going to tentatively do some testing....

Brilliant news. The red P being on will mean that there is a fault with the e brake system and if it has never had the software update maybe that is all that is required to fix.

So this is a MASSIVE thank you to everyone who posted here. I really mean it, just having the Z4 community available to talk to has clamed me, when otherwise I felt completely lost. It has offered not just practical advice, but much appreciated words of empathy. RobbieZ4 your heroic offer to drive such a long distance to sort the issue stands you out among the rest, so a big thank you for that. Not that anyone else deserves anything less. All postings were amazing.
So, off we go I guess. I'm not saying I feel totally confident going all the way to Madrid. I'm guessing this could happen again right? But what I do know for sure is if it's torrential rain, I ain't driving.
I'm booked in the hotel until tomorrow, so will spend the rest of the day checking and double checking the car, paranoia is a hard thing to get rid of!! And also buying a thank you gift for the amazing staff at the iBis Hotel, Rouen. Who have been so incredibly accommodating.
Hopefully this'll be the last from me for a while. Getting that software update ASAP!!
Thanks guys
Steve

Brilliant news.

Time to start thinking about who you want to play you in the BBC drama of this event.

P.s, before your next European adventure might be a good idea to invest in a second key.

Hope the rest of your holiday goes smoothly.

Glad she is mobile, don't touch the handbrake button! Stick a bit of tape over it. Leave the car in gear with the front wheels turned towards the kerb. This is an old thread https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=73354&start=15

Congratulation!

And don't forget:

Just a registering of the new battery is required, if the new battery is of the same size and type (AGM, 70 Ah).

Will do RobbieZ4, you also have been a massive help mate. I have this weird comedown feeling at the moment like I've just got off a 3 day rollercoaster ride and I'm still working out what the hell just went on haha!!

Great news OP, glad you're back on the road.
What a drama :)
Even my wife has been asking 'how's that guy in France?'

Something to consider maybe:
I've attached an old Oxford 'Oximiser' charging lead to the charging points under the bonnet, and tucked the connector in behind the grill, so I can get to it if needed

What a thread. Very happy to hear you have it semi-sorted now. If I were you though, I'd drive it while its still moving to the local BMW dealership and get them to give it a software once over. You really don't want a repeat of this at your next hotel!

Enjoy the rest of your trip - you'll have some memories, thats for sure

That is the same what Porsche do. In the cabin, there is a 12v point which if you power it, you can open the frunk where the battery is.

My battery died at a petrol station (Vodaphone tracker failure killed the battery), and the Porsche dealer came with the power pack so they could open the space to get to the battery (only electronic opening, no cable).
