so this morning my dash lit up like a Christmas tree and the everything on the car failed. luckily the throttle stopped working just as i pulled up outside my house!

now i need to start looking for a new alternator. ive had a look on Euro car parts and they start at £291!! this is shocking and i cant afford that kind of cash right now being self employed. someone has mentioned to me that certain 3 series alternators will fit? is this correct as they seem cheaper!

Think you'll find its £219 after you have given them your old "serviceable" unit in exchange. Hope that sweetens the pill. BTW massive difference in the amperage of the 2 units you've listed.

Try carparts4less. ECP rebranded - usually cheaper by about 5% and £15 off if you spend over £100.

£201 for the Lucas compared to ECP (after surcharge). Knock another £15 off and that's a bit better.

How about these?

This company has several websites. I bought parts for my Ford from them.

EDIT** Found the web page that looks similar to finnish one where I bought mine ; http://www.buycarparts.co.uk/bmw/z4-e85/16828/10450/alternator

EDIT2** I received campaign code which gives you extra -5%. PM me if you want it

Have you tried Breakers Yards or Evilbay. Used parts might not be exactly what you want but if you are in a bit of a bind at the moment it might just serve the purpose.

Try Eurocarparts promo codes, I found 15% off the price making it £259, then you get £72 back when you return your old one £187, I always do the promo code when buying from them.

looks good. how do you go about returning your parts??

Do you not have a ECP near you ?..... I know there is one in Huddersfield and Bradford

I would remove it and go to the shop..ECP are excellent at sending out the incorrect parts..

so id have to have the old part taken off before being able to get the better price?

Just remove the old one and take it with you, you must do click and collect, never buy direct over the counter as they can't match the online price, I had one assistant telling me he didn't know how they made a profit on these items and that it was below trade prices too.
