Alternator Whine Help :-(

Hello everyone,

Im Mit and I recently bought a 2003 Z4 in November. Heres a little background on my predicament and I desperately need advice...

The first thing I wanted to do was change the head unit as I needed something with Ipod connectivity and bluetooth so I went for a kenwood BT6OU. I also found out that I have the Carver Top Hi-fi system which is a pain to start fiddling with, but I love my music so though it would be a worth while investment to get the sound sorted.
Went to sound evolution in watford and they advised me on purchasing a 4 channel amp Alpine PMX-F640 and some crossovers.

So currently I have the head unit connecting to the amp via 2 RCA's to the alpine amp. I have a pair of 3 way crossovers (kenwood kpx-f801) that connect to the speakers in the footwell, door and to the tweeter at the top of the door. I also have a set of 2 way crossovers that are connected to the two subs behind the seats (the two carver subs have been replaced by a pair of JL Audio 6W3v3-4) and the mids just above them.

Here's the issue, the alternator whine is driving me nuts. If the HU is not in, there is still a noise. It comes from the tweeters only. If i remove the tweeters from the crossovers it then moves to the Mids.

The guys at sound evolution are now indicating to me that the system is ok, it must either be the battery or the alternator. But then would I not have had the alternator whine before hand (or am I missing something).

Really need aqdvise as I have spent a significant bit on money on labour and now they are saying its nothing to do with us. all the speakers are the original stock speaker apart from the two carver subs which have been replaced.

I would really appreciate any advice when I return to them next week......please help

Thanks in advance

Mit

Sounds like a loose ground. Also there are blocking caps you can get for the power leads to stop the problem too. Not knowing what kind of stereo outlets you have in England I cant tell you where to get them...
