Help! Abs/dsc sensor problem!

it would be great if it is just an earth fault, I can't imagine why the repair firms and the auto electricians cant fix it if its something so simple. Good luck

I'm now feeling that it must be an earth fault or wiring issue as doesn't make sense for the speedo not to work and the battery to keep draining. Well day off on Friday to hopefully get to the bottom of it!

I can't say for sure but INPA gives really good info wrt dodgy wiring in my experience.

Do you have anyone nearby with INPA at all?

Dave

So Friday came and went and I got my second option from an independent BMW specialist, managed to get it for free ;) but this time I was actually listened to about my battery problem, the speedo and the lights on the dash, and following the check the same faults appeared I.e no communication with ASC, I've been told that I need to change the DSC module and not actually the whole control unit as BMW wanted me to and pay them £1,300 for the honour of changing it for me! The company ECU Testing was recommended as they will rebuild it for £195 and a lifetime warranty. Having been on the website the module failing can also result in the speedo to stop responding!

Feels so great to know what the problem is now and not to be treated like an idiot.

Ah and the battery although it was new appears to be a faulty battery! Just my luck haha so that will be getting replaced by Bosch under the warranty.

So the morning will start by taking the module which is as simple as unscrewing the 6 torques, I won't be able to drive it till it's gone 5/7 working days so I'll be getting the bus to work eek! But all worth it having saved £1,100! I'm hoping this works so once I get the module back and re-fit it I will update further :)

Yes it's in Derbyshire, Ecutesting.com. Have you used them urself or know of anyone who has?

Posted my unit off this morning, for what should have been a very easy task to take out it was so niggly with so many pipes in the way but managed to get it out eventually but had to push the heatshield out of the way a bit. Fingers crossed it works when it come back

Yes..

We have used them once without success, and have had a number of complaints from other garages im afraid..

See how you go....

Ah! Well, as you say see how I go, as the garage that recommended them uses them often without complaint. The garage are good friends of my boyfriend so ok reason not to believe them.

If nothing else, it comes back and it still doesn't work correctly and I'm back to square one.

You say other garages, do you work at a dealership yourself?

No...I have worked for main dealers in my time and was head tech for Nissan and Mitsubishi Ralliart but now im a diagnostic specialist and we mainly work for the trade. When other garages have given up hope/money/run out of time or talent then the cars get dropped off to us....lol..

We see heck of a lot of cars that these so called "repairers" have tried to fix and some of the them are appalling. We have a Vauxhall Corsa in the garage at the moment that has an ECU problem..."ecutesting" have "repaired" the ECU and it still doesnt work,so the garage then continued looking for faults, check the wiring and pulled the engine bay wiring loom from the car.. They just couldnt find the problem so it came to us..

We immediately saw that the main ECU was missing Hican information to and from the other modules on the car, this is a classic main ECU drop out or can wiring fault.. As it happens we have a test ECU for the Corsa as so many go wrong. We fitted and programmed the ECU and the car was up and running....Faulty ECU...

So the original garage are now in a battle with ecutesting for the costs of the repair plus all the subsequent work that then ensued because of incorrect diagnosis and repair...

Anyway.....See how you go,with a little luck you should be all up and running ASAP..

Ah I see....hmmm well as you said I'll see how i go and update further next week hopefully :) thank you for help so far

I ha the dreaded call from ECU Testing.com today and they say my module is so badly damaged and the processor is shot and so is unrepairable! Yes yes I want to cry! Ok so I will now be trying to track down a second hand unit and have it programmed to my car. If this fails I'm out of all options and will have to get a new unit and pay a lot of money.

Rang them and they don't have a part and equally they would not recommend rebuilding that part and replacing the unit. My search continues, thank you for the lead :)

So final instalment and update to this problem, was having no luck with the second hand part and with winter here I have paid out for a new part which was programmed and fitted and now car is finally fully functioning and the speedo came back too, also had it taken out of transport mode too and fan works properly again. At least I know what the problem was (the abs/DSC module unit) now if it happens to anyone else, but equally could be a sensor from a thread I just read. Happy driving again :)

Great thread as I'm having similar issues... please oh please I hope its not abs/module, How much did it set you back Nazy06?

I have just finished a abs module install on my 3.0 si. Had to buy c110 reader from China. Power bleeder. Fluid and repair by ecutesting. Done it all my self for £400 ish. I no mechanic but work with my hands building pure water equipment . I had the codes come up that pointed toward abs module and pump. Wheel lining out drain brake fluid. Undo 6 brake lines from abs unit. One bolt holds the module in place. I had x2 sheared off bleed nipples to add to the fun. I was amazed it all worked out without a trip to dealers. Ecutesting are fantastic. The c110 code reader is £40 well spent. The horror stories of £2000 bill can be cut right down with a bit of determination.

That's a bit more like it! thanks for the info, its going in the garage in the morning so will find out if it is the module or just a sensor... praying its just a sensor!
