Hellrot Coupe Respray Progress

Thought I'd make a progress thread of my coupe getting a full respray from the guys at John Mills Motors, dropped her off yesterday and received some progress photos from the guys today. The car was a mess with stone chips, various dents and the clear coat was starting to go in some areas, not sure if this is common? Excited to see the results, will be the first car I've own with 'like new' paintwork :D IMG_2009.jpgIMG_2011.jpgIMG_2008.jpgIMG_2008.jpgIMG_2010.jpgIMG_2012.jpg

Scary when you see it looking like that though!
Looking forward to the finished version.

It is! The other half was kind enough to say it looks like a heap of **** I quite like seeing it stripped down mad max style

Looking forward to seeing the completed paint job mate.

My hellrot coupe is looking fairly average in the paintwork department - do you mind me asking what's the rough cost of a full respray, as I'm contemplating one too. Cheers

Thanks mate and I'm paying just over a grand for mines but they guy said its usually about £1500. They're struggling for work just now due to the state of the country so I'd expect about that when looking for quotes, I was recommended them by a friend after being quoted £600 for the bootlid, front driver side wing and mirrors from another place

Great project.

Be interested to hear rough costs. Mine is also a mess of stone chips, there are so many that its futile trying to repair touch up, also a couple of dents and skirt rash and covered in swirl marks. Really gets my OCD going.

Im planning to give it a good DA which will help but will only do so much. I have been contemplating it a respray but considering the cost vs how much its worth... probably 1/3rd of its value I would never see again.

See post above for costs  I think you'd be surprised to be honest, I'm planning on keeping mine for as long as possible hopefully until it no longer runs lol, I was the same as you and was trying to learn to live with it but to me this is the nicest car I've owned and with probably the worst paintwork. Depends on what the cars worth to you really, I just got fed up waxing a car that needed more lol

I'm quite shocked at how the S.T.F.A.H. warriors have not come in to attack you. I asked about fixing a couple of dents the other day and rattled many cages with that. Seems I was the most inconsiderate, selfish POS out there. But a full respray! Wow.

LOL I imagine an attack is imminent, I don't see much difference in handing over a single key than going to the supermarket and picking up potentially contaminated products. I'm maintenance on a refinery so classed as a 'key worker' and the rules of disinfecting has been drummed into us. I totally understand anyone that has something to say though as this crisis is serious and if there was any question in my current health or the workers at the body shop with regards to symptoms it would have been postponed to a better time

Imola red can be terrible for hazing , swirl & scratch marks , considering a professional paint correction can cost £500 -£750 possibly more then the above figure for full repaint seems almost a no brainer , especially as yours would have less involved with it being a roadster .
Get it on your "to do" list :P

Hmm i never actually noticed or considered that, I'd like the think so :| they look to have removed everything else around the car

Why have they not removed the bonnet and petrol cap?
I think its just the first stage of prepping the paintwork, he did say the bonnet will be coming off when they paint it, I tend not to ask questions and just leave them to it

I was expecting a lot more on the cost front tbh... I thought it would be more like 3-4k for a full respray!

Me too to be honest, I don't think you would be far off that though if you were looking for it to be completely stripped out and put back to bare metal then the labour costs would be through the roof

Updated pics from the body shop, they're going to be applying colour tomorrow by the sounds of things :D aerial base and bonnet remains but I can't imagine it making a huge difference. Looking at the pictures I'm more than happy with the work being done and the price I'm paying IMG_0408.jpgIMG_0406.jpgIMG_0407.jpg

Would be closer to that if they were stripping it down fully rather than just taping bits off (3rd brake light, aerial, door/boot handles, glass, etc.).
