Hello, Z4M Introduction and a few questions!

Good morning everyone,

This is my first post, so just to say hello, introduce myself, my new car and ask a few questions.

My name is Dan, I'm 26, I live in the New Forest, Hampshire and have recently owned VX220's, Audi S4's (one tuned, both tow cars), a Skoda Octavia VRS (also a tow car) and now, since selling my boat, I've treated myself to the BMW. I’ve recently bought a BMW Z4 M Roadster in Monaco Blue. She’s 2006 with just 32,000 miles and in very good order. Very pleased with it so far. It has a few essential (IMHO) options (not sure what’s standard TBH!), extended leather package, carbon leather dash, seprang leather seats and centre console and black leather A pillars, sun visors and windscreen surround, Bluetooth and auto lights/wipers, heated and electric memory seats. No sat nav, but it wasn’t on my list of essentials.

Now the only things that I find are missing are cruise control, (still can’t believe how such a modern and expensive car doesn’t have cruise control!), cup holders!, some kind of iPhone holder/charger and a way of getting music from the iPhone or iPod onto the stereo. I have seen there is a snap in iPhone 4 holder in the fold down part between the seats, so may get this. Interested to hear if you can play music from this? I’d assume not. The other option is the new BMW link iPhone app and holder. Is this available in the Z4? Does it work over Bluetooth or via cable? Not read up on this much yet.

Only small things, and items I hope I’ll be able to retrofit easily enough. I’m currently at work so I’m limited on how much time I can spend on the internet, so I’m therefore unable to spend ages searching the forum, but I’ll have a good look through later. In the meantime, if anyone knows rough prices, part numbers, or links to how to guides, for any of the above, I’d be happy to hear!

So far enjoying the car. :driving: I’ll get some photos up later.

Thanks for reading,

Dan

For music, you need the Intravee which connects to the satnav screen for ipod / iphone control.

I can't see from the pictures if you have satnav or a "Flimperised" model, as that is vital for the Intravee really.

Playalistic is selling an Intravee on the forum by the way (without required Alpine unit though :P ).

welcome to the forum. Somewhere on here there's a faq about retro-fitting cruise control I think.

Thanks, I'll have a look for it. Glad it's possible. It was easy on the VAG cars I've owned. I find it hard to keep a constant 70mph in the BMW as the throttle sensitivity and positioning seems better suited to more spirited driving!

Welcome - lovely motor. Could be my eyes, but if you hadn't said it was blue I'd swear that was black. It looks fantastic

Yeah, that's the combination of lots of cleaning and waxing and the fading light when I took the photos.

Awesome looking motor and great pics...although very very expensive (for me....as every time I see pics of an 'M' I bring forward my plan to get one next!).

Most of the stuff you asked about is straightforward (although not necessarily cheap!) and I'm pretty sure is covered within these pages - I've certainly found the forum to be a wealth of useful knowledge and very friendly. Of course some of the things you want to do will be 'M' specific but I don't think too many are.

Enjoy the car (and, to you and all other M roadster owners...keep 'em nice and shiny 'cos one of 'em is my next car!) 8)

Thanks for that. I'll have a good look through later.

So far I've only spent money on tyres, 4x Continental Contact Sport 5's which were just over £700 for 4 fitted. Handles much better now!

Cup holders can be retro fitted. A thread around here mentions a car at a breakers - you might be lucky. Failing that call sopers BMW and ask for z4forum discount - best prices for BMW parts.
