heated rear screen & temperature reading

Have a few problems with my newly acquired 2008 Z4.
The heated rear screen does not work light on panel switch does not illuminate when pressed, also the external temperature on the display shows 50c constantly and cannot be reset, although does change from deg C to deg F if reset is pressed. Defrost also not working.

Are all these connected/ a common fault? Have checked fuses and all okay. :|

I am not able to help tbh, but let me be the first to welcome you to the forum.

I'm pretty sure one of the first questions you'll be asked is "how old is the battery", as they seem to throw up a whole plethora of faults if they start to lose charge.

Oh, and photos of your Z are de rigeur on here.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

Welcome to the forum

Your car might be in transport mode.
As enuff_zed pointed out, this I possibly due to a battery issue.

First port of call will be getting it plugged into a laptop to read the codes and disable transport mode if it is activated.
I don't know if the temperature reading is related but that can be investigated with ISTA or INPA.

In short... you will save yourself a fortune with the correct diagnostics software, or finding a friendly forum member near you to help out.

"how old is the battery",
battery is quite new and fully charged. Perhaps its the sensor, but without ramps and removing the wheel cant access it,next step is to find a garage.
Thanks anyway

I'd say a cheaper next step may be to ask if anyone on the forum is near you with diagnostic equipment that may be able to spot your problems, and potentially even fix them?
Even with the covid malarkey I'm sure you'd be able to work something out?

Does your aircon light stay on when activated and your heater fan move between all speeds as it should?
