HC08 and Deals Gap

In 2005 for our first HC my wife had commented that we didn't see any Z3/4's on the drive in. We drove down the Tail and finally, finally saw a large group of Zeds. I saw a Maldives Blue Z4 with CA COOZ4 plates. We met and then all drove to the ES. For some reason, my perception was that Greenville was a lot closer to Deal's Gap. My guess was that I was impatient to meet people. When we drove into the parking lot, I finally met JackB1. Back them Roadfly was very popular, now it is like a morgue.

As a LPO I did not shave my legs, the E4's ( as they are the lowest form of life in my EOS ( job title)) got their legs shaved to compete in the beauty contest on half way night. Thigh highs and garder belts just don't look good on a guy with hairy legs. :roll:

It was a story that was told last year, sharing service stories. I was drunk and 20ducks was tring to figure out how my mind works. I think he is still working on that one also.
To ride subs you need to be a bit crazzy or you would go nuts.
Where else in the service can you go out 120 men and come back as 60 couples? Don't go there. That is what the Marines use to tell the submariners.
We told the Marines that they were part of the Navy, they would always argue with us. We would tell them to have a look on the top of their pay checks. Right across the top, DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY. Don't get me wrong, I have anything against Marines, they have been guarding Navy bases for over 200 years and have not lost or misplaced on yet.

I darn near fell off my chair. Good times. Talk about the tight nitt group of friends. :wink:
The Royal Queen would have not even got to second base with all that dark hair showing on my boats. We liked them slick.
The special cases, Those deserved that little bit extra effort. We had some good ones for those smart a##es that just could not keep their mouths shut and follow the plan ( our plan, not the plan ). The manly man test in machine room one ( vise and thumbs test ) and bouy butter.
Someone that has shared the same types of life experiences, It will be my pleasure to shake you hand at HC!!
BTW Phil, Yes I am comfortable with sharing on the open forum. Life is a one way trip and I plan to have some fun along the way. Crazy ?... sure. Loving life ..... You bet!

This took place in 1983. WAY before kindler, gentler Navy.....
Those two guys taped to the table were secured there during the whole Shellback Initiation. They fought back too. Throwing taunts, cuss words and such at us....
In the end, we did not have the heart to put them through the actual initiation. They had been through enough.....
We kinda thought that they might be a little pissed, but we were wrong...... They said they had so much fun that they will never forget the experience..
The big guy was the first one to get taped down. He was our Yeoman Chief (E-7).... The second, smaller guy was a seaman with a big mouth...
When I went through the Bluenose initiation in the 90's on the USS Finback (SSN-670), our CO was so concerned about pictures getting out and ruining his career, he banned cameras during the event.
Christ, I was never so cold.......

My time on the boats was pre 1980. Had lots of fun. Hazing was not what I called it. You go along to get along. Nothing ever hurt anyone. Perhaps a few hurt prides. Just made you stronger. When all was said and done, you knew who had you back when things got tuff. IMHO there is nothing like the feeling that when you have a sea water valve open that the guy standing next to you is not going to QUIT !!!!! I don't know that I would have that feeling now days.
