Having problems pairing my phone over bluetooth. Any advice?

Hi Guys,

I am hoping someone here might be able to help! I have bluetooth in my z4 but cant get it to pick up my phone, or my phone to pick up the car. I have tried pressing the button etc and following the instructions in the manuals but no luck. I then thought that the memory might be full so I tried to delete the paired phones again using instructions from this forum, no joy!

Now, I have a phone base unit installed but no cradle. Should this make a difference? I know for a fact that the last owner used his iphone 4 (he showed me it working) without having any cradle fitted.

Any help guys, I could really do with having my bluetooth working and not getting 3 points on my licence!

You've pressed the pair button in the drop down door between the seats right? The only other thing is to have the BT code ready and keep trying. These cars are notorious at bluetooth pair failure and it takes the patience of a saint to get them to work. Once in though it's all good of course.

Also take a look at this thread…

Yeah, pretty much what Inkey said.

I got mine recently and apart from taking a while to find out where the Bluetooth paring button was (In the center between your seats) it wasn't too bad.
Also just for reference I don't believe the cradle is required at all, mine doesn't have it.
The last owners of mine had no luck at all pairing their phones to it, but so far it's working.

I did first assume you could create your own Paring PIN but there should be a bit of paper in your manual with a Bluetooth code specific to your Stereo system.

Hope you have better luck!

I think it won't work if you have a recent phone as the Bluetooth version surpasses the cars Bluetooth. That was my conclusion after hours of trying to get it to pair.

Has anyone paired a iPhone 4s or Galaxy s4 to a 2006 Z?

I was messing around for hours....was about to give up...then it suddenly worked, realised you have got to be very accurate on how long you hold the pair button down for, 3 seconds did the trick for me! And not elephant seconds, just 1 2 3 :)

Yes - I recently changed from an iPhone 4 to Galaxy S4. Paired the S4 fairly easily, but cannot get the address book to read. I had no problem with the iPhone. I suspect the Z4 (2007) does not fully support the S4.

My latest iphone 5s pairs up ok but for the life of me I cant get the directory to work although it displays the phone numbers for incoming and outgoing calls on the radio panel.

If anyone wants a PDF of the relevant pages of the comms manual for E85/86 ( came with 07 facelift car ) pm me

Managed to get the car into pairing mode the other day randomly! :) But then I realised I didn't know the code and it was at home  I will try this afternoon and post if I am successful!

Once I worked out where the button was and the individual pairing code my iPhone 5S paired and directory / contacts loaded and seems to work well

iPhone 5S is the most recent version and paired OK as I said (Car is 2007 Z4MC).

I have paired my Nexus 4 to mine, but cant get any of the contacts up on the sat nav screen, do you know why this would be?

The Bluetooth and phone work well, but can only see the number when dialling/being called which is not that helpful.

Cheers

I spent agest trying to pair my iphone 5 and got sick of it.
I followed instructions on how to clear the previous pairing history and it paired up first time. I think there are only so many phones that can be setup to pair with it automatically and if your car has had a couple of owners then it's likely to be full.
Try clearing the history!

So many topics about this so didn't know which to post on....

But tried for 2 minutes using the manual using step by step on here not working, suddenly had a brainwave ejected the nokia holder thingy tried again and it worked first time, paired the phone and copied across contacts.... I'm happy now!

It pairs for a second and then disconnects...anyone had this?!

Yes, is yours android? I believe this is a problem with the Bluetooth stack in the latest builds of Android. I've looked into it and it seems the phone needs to be rooted and then hacked a bit.
My Mrs iPhone pairs fine.

I had this problem last week trying to pair my iPhone 6S for the first time. I was getting "pairing successful" on the screen then i was losing it again and it would do what you said - pairing for about a second then losing it. I got around it by unpairing the phone (basically starting again from scratch) and working through the pairing process, then after putting in the blutooth code and pairing successful coming up, turn off the ignition instantly before it has time to lose the pairing. This worked consistantly and copied the contacts over.
