Have you raced anyone and if so, what was the outcome

Some twonk in an old 2.0 megane overtook me on a sweeping bend last night after he had been very close behind me for a mile or so. We were doing 40 on some twisty country lanes. You could go faster if better conditions but it was pissing it down with rain and pretty bad fog, just let him get on with it as got nothing to prove and would rather he was way in front of me than right up my arse! I could tell he wanted me to chase him down though

The best part about about having a car that looks fast (and possibly is), is showing that you've got nothing to prove, by not rising to the bait. "Let'em go" is my motto, they aren't imortant enough to warrant my attention.
I guess some of the guys that I've 'let go' will be telling their mates that they 'raced' a Z3 and left him standing - bless!

I dont mind having a play now and again, however what stopped me a few years back is I watched one of those police camera episodes and there was a guy in a z4 3.0 and another guy in a new vauxhall astra or something or other... I forget what, anyway the 2 of them were having a play and racing each other down back roads spur of the moment thing.. I wouldnt say in a built up area, more country side I think, the astra lost control left the road went airborne and landed on someones house roof! I believe the house was situated below the road a fair bit... The police investigated the accident had witnesses to say the car was racing a black bmw sports car, they looked through footage of near by security cameras along the road at junctions etc and got half the plate, they then did a search and found a guy with a black z4 in the near-by area. He denied being involved initially, however they eventually found out that he was the one who had called the albulance etc after leaving the scene of the accident, he ended up getting banned for 3 years ! Crazy...

I guess the moral of that story is, its not yourself you have to worry about when having a bit of a play its the idiot your racing as if he makes a mistake your both in the s**t together! :o

It was a civic Type R not an Astra!

Too many to list, let alone give all the details. Interesting on the way home. Today. Comming out of the tunnel, 30 into a 70 uphill, thought I had a white civic behind me. Hooft it in third, next I know Jap thing staight up the inside lane and past me. :? Twas a old GTR skyline. Must do some home work on Jap cars. Would add I was in my Mazda.

May be I'll meet him again one day, in the Z. :D

Right. Now I'm definitely gunna get flamed, but speeding is a crime my friend and cops are there to detect crime. We have the safest roads in Europe largely thanks to those devious boys in blue trying to justify their existence....
If only that were true. The government's own official figures show that excessive speed was the main causal factor in only 6% of accidents. But there is only minimal enforcement of the other 94% - including texting while driving, which is apparently the fastest growing cause of accidents, especially among younger people.

I am the most cautious and slow driver in wet conditions, keep below the speed limit in built up areas but on dry open roads drive very fast. I have a clean licence, have never crashed, drive around 25k miles per year in 4 different vehicles. Speed is not the killer, people not watching what they are doing or not keeping there vehicle roadworthy are the problem. I have hit the limiter on my car numerous times and cruise at a tonne when traffic conditions permit. I can legally do 70mph in my 18 tonne Scania Motorhome but can only legally do the same in the Zed.

And there's the confession m'lud. (You might want to make an edit there)

I once raced a 2.8 Granada away from the lights on my old Triumph Bonneville 750 back in the 80's and it was an unmarked police car! Luckily I only got a bollocking. I try not to race people but sometimes it's hard not to.

I wouldnt bet your next months salaray on the outcome if I were you. Looking at a model from 2000 (ish) is 270bhp and 0-60 in 5secs! :)

In my defence I quoted a metric tonne :rofl: " no need for edits"

I'm a serial killer so I need to drive fast to get away. I'm just wishing I had ordered it with red seats so it doesn't show the blood. I robbed a bank yesterday to pay my drug dealer :poke:

If I want to say I've done 155mph on the A1(M) on Wednesday night I can and it doesn't need editing. If I showed the footage on YouTube from my GoPro then that's a different story.

Not sure we're comparing apples with apples. The info I had was our KSI rate compared to other euro countries. Ours being the lowest (for now) which whatever the spin says must, at least in part be down to enforcement/education. In terms of speed, hear what you say about "main causal factor" but do you have more or less time to deal with problems when ur driving fast? And wud u rather have a blown tyre (e.g.) and hit the Armco at 30 or 130? At the end if the day statistics will tell you whatever u want them to. Common sense is a good barometer.

Not trying to be anyone's dad and I'm sure I'm not faultless myself. U pays ur money u takes ur choice. But I bet there are plenty of people been bagged up and taken away that used (or were hit by someone who used) to think similar things to expressed here. Anywhoose no doubt this threads been done a million times before and all that there is to say has been said before.

Nope. All verts. Seriously tho? I know the o.p. didn't want any "rubbish" posts about racing but its never a good idea. U just don't know who ur racing...

I had a race in an Audi TT with a 335d on an empty M4 late one chilly winter's night many years ago. We averaged 108mph over 5 miles according to his video footage. Fortunately he wrote '96mph' on the ticket and awarded me only three points for effort so I escaped a charge of dangerous driving :oops:

Speeding is a road traffic offense by and large (hence no criminal record), but may become a criminal offense if charges such as dangerous driving or drinking driving are brought.

We all love our fun guys but if, god forbid, you are involved in fatal today and investigated are you happy that there is nothing posted that you might regret saying about your propensity to drive in a certain way? Investigation of social media is a bog-standard avenue, and as they say "anything you do say may be used against you".

Apart from living with yourself sentencing will depend on,

Inappropriate speed of vehicle
(g) greatly excessive speed; racing; competitive driving against another vehicle;
(h) driving above the speed limit;
(i) driving at a speed that is inappropriate for the prevailing road or weather conditions; and
Seriously culpable behaviour of offender
(k) aggressive driving (such as driving much too close to the vehicle in front, persistent inappropriate attempts to overtake, or cutting in after overtaking);
From http://www.cps.gov.uk/legal/p_to_r/road_traffic_offences_guidance_on_prosecuting_cases_of_bad_driving/

Anyone for an edit? :wink:

Bad driving should be punished. Fast driving is good driving and not bad driving as long as you drive "appropriate speed of vehicle", weather conditions, road condition, respect other road users. I don't tailgate, I drive slow in wet conditions and I am a very patient driver. Driving fast is different to driving erratic.
I was driving down to Tesco in that last lot of snow in the X5 at about 55mph. The dual carriageway only had one lane clear. I could see a van in the mirror right up my ass tailgaiting. Now that is bad driving. I arrived safely at Tesco to see that the van was in fact an ambulance full of old people.
Driving Fast - Drive smooth and keep cool and only overtake if it is safe to do so and does not cause anyone to brake or swerve. Do not drive fast in built up areas, near junctions (others may not judge your speed correctly), blind corners or browes of hills. You should be able to stop in the distance you can see.
I don't race on the roads but a quick drag can sometimes be rewarding :)
You never know this thread could have been started by the Rozzers to get us all to confess.
