Hi ALl,

So nightmare! i have just had a really stressful drive back from work in busy traffic, on the way i stopped off at ASDA, and leaving there were some kretins all in teh wrong lanes, anyway in my frustration and trying to dodge them i ended up going through a red light (only just red!)... a complete nightmare and was cursing as i did it!

Something i have never done before but a few questions....it was night and i didnt notice any flash at all? Would i have done? I also didnt notice any yellow boxes!
Secondly how much of a difference will it make to my insurance? I am 24 3 years no claims and insurance is around £1k currently for a Z4 2.5

Anyway very furstrating and whats done is done i guess but
Let me know your thoughts..

Was there a camera there?

The flash is very bright at night, at least on Gatso - not sure about RLC.

all you can do is wait and see if anything comes in the post.

at the end of the day its only money. what do you get these days for running a red? 3 points and a fine?

So - go back and drive past the junction - look closely - the camera's are obvious, some can be grey though and not yellow, and not all flash.

MOST junctions don't have cameras remember and a lot of cameras don't even work - I have the same worries even going through an amber! Most likely you'll be fine.

If not... 3 points ain't going to make too much of a difference - shop around and you'll find someone that won't put too much of a premium.

If there wasn't a yellow camera box (smaller than the usual GATSO) then it would just be the usual traffic monitoring cameras and you have nothing to worry about.

But you never know, so just sweat bollox for the next 14 days, after which any NIP is null and void. :poke:

And a least it taught you an accident-free lesson eh! We've all been there or thereabouts....

Good point about the colour and I correct what I said above; the government guidance about colouring cameras yellow for visibility only applies to speed cameras - apparently traffic light cameras are exempt from this requirement because the red traffic light is deemed to be adequate notice that a driver is required to stop (a case of stating the bleedin' obvious I guess but hey-ho!)....so be afraid my friend, be very afraid! LOL

Bu seriously, as suggested, check the junction when you have a chance; the traffic cam is still fairly obvious and about a third of the size of a GATSO....

But as I've said on another thread, you can't take anything for granted these days - a few weeks ago in France I was picked up doing well over 100mph in pitch darkness by an ANPR camera that then flashed my reg up on an overhead gantry! So keep 'em peeled as that bloke used to say...what was his bloody name again, its annoing me now...? :?

If you look at some of the sites advising on avoiding the cameras, they'll all tell you some of the lights have integrated cameras in them. Almost impossible to spot unless you have stopped next to them.

You could always buy a zed and insure it before you get your notice as technically, you dont have any points right now. Of course you'd have to sell your zed before the next year's insurance.....

Go onto ur local council webbie and it should have a section about "safety" cameras...usually they list there whereabouts of cameras...
Or just google "safty cameras (and then ur area)" and u should find it...
Unless you already kno for deffo there is a traffic light camera there??
Apparently there is a pause from when the light goes to red...as they kno ppl can get caught out too easily...
But dont bet on it all the time

I do not believe a single 3 pointer for speeding, camers, etc. affects insurance.

You can always test it by going onto a site for quotes. Try it with and without a single offence and see if there's a difference.

Done a 'round robin' on another car forum CJ and regret to report it does appear to in many places. And Direct Line wanted £40 on every policy (I have three) if the three points I thought I might have incurred came to pass... :(

One of the companies that apparently doesn't is NFU mutual who let you off the first three and who's rates are pretty good to boot. I don't know if wellies are optional though.... :?

I think there is a 0.7 second delay after they go red, and this in detected at the line.

My thoughts are, red lights are there for a reason. Never bust them unless you are racing from a maniac, or you are a maniac!

Fingers crossed.

OK - so in some companies it does, hence the suggestion to run a few trial quotes and see what comes back.
My only indiscretion since my test, of a 41 in a 30 zone 4 years ago, made no difference (Tesco)
£40 hardly a deal breaker though

At end of the day its not going to make an horrific difference to ur insurance...probalby the cost of a good night out?
Nothing to lose sleep over just yet..
If u want anything badly enough u ll pay ANYTHING for it anyway
Just be careful fella

I guess you're right, but £40 x 3 policies x 4 years = a new set of tyres :(

But I suspect its probably very age-sensitive? (No offence LOL!)

Unfortunatly, thats an urban myth, it does affect your insurance, but the amount depends on age, etc

You have that horrible wait - have the same thing after spirited drives... a couple weeks nervously watching the post! Only time will tell. Reference the insurance, from experience you may have to shop it around as some companies are more forgiving than others.

As for not getting the car, as Woots pointed out, if you want it badly enough... but I very much doubt it will have that big an effect, from what I remember. Good news, you should still be able to get the car. Bad news... a premium increase may reduce your tinkering budget! And trust me, after browsing on here you will want to tinker! It’s a very infectious disease.

guys he said there was no flash and if it didn't flash no picture was taken, so stop scaring the guy and telling him how he has the horrible wait. all speed and redlight cameras flash. i bet you there's no camera there in the first place and he's worring about nothing.
